SWINTON LIMITED The Bahamas Source WWW ''deja.com' The Boston Globe 1999, Sept. 18: From John D. Swinton of Vancouver, USA
"$15 million seized from firm with Russian ties" by Stfan Lemieszewski
of the Globe Staff. In a legal case on money laundering $7.4 million in
Swinton's account at BankBoston was frozen in 1998, Nov. 16 and $7.3
million in its account at the Bank of New York the next week. The money
had been deposited in accounts opened by Swinton Ltd, a Bahamian firm
whose principals, according to investigators were connected to a Russian
Telecommunications firm that had made millions in profits through a
series of complicated financial transactions in Moscow in 1996.
While to case against the Swinton's Russian principals were strong the
alleged fraudulent activity was not committed agains an American bank
and so did not satisfy US money laundering statutes. Several months
later the money was returned.
