Birds<br />

period (August 14 – 26). For mallard <strong>and</strong> northern<br />

pintail, the percentage <strong>of</strong> young totaled 39%, <strong>and</strong> 89%<br />

respectively. Thirteen previously b<strong>and</strong>ed ducks were<br />

captured, consisting <strong>of</strong> seven mallard <strong>and</strong> six northern<br />

pintail. Detailed information can be obtained from the<br />

Mills Lake <strong>2011</strong> Preseason B<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>Report</strong> from the South<br />

Slave Environment <strong>and</strong> Natural Resources G<strong>NWT</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

LONG-TERM PLANS .<br />

AND RECOMMENDATIONS:<br />

Long-term plans include the continuation <strong>of</strong> annual<br />

pre-season b<strong>and</strong>ing at Mills Lake, <strong>NWT</strong>. Mills Lake<br />

is a unique staging area for waterfowl <strong>and</strong> logistically<br />

feasible for gathering pertinent information on waterfowl<br />

for population monitoring <strong>and</strong> management that pertains<br />

specifically to the Mackenzie River’s boreal forest region.<br />

Recommendation is for the regional communities <strong>and</strong><br />

the resource management agency’s continued support<br />

for pre-season b<strong>and</strong>ing within Mills Lake.<br />
