<strong>University</strong>’s <strong>Prof</strong>ile<br />
<strong>Maulana</strong> <strong>Azad</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Urdu</strong> <strong>University</strong> (MANUU) is a Central <strong>University</strong> established in<br />
1998 by an Act of Parliament to promote and develop <strong>Urdu</strong> language and to impart<br />
vocational and technical education through <strong>Urdu</strong> medium by conventional and distance<br />
modes. The Headquarter of the <strong>University</strong> is at an outstanding central location-<br />
Gachibowli, Hyderabad, sprawled over 200 acres. The students and staff of the <strong>University</strong><br />
are drawn from throughout India. They are attracted by its commitment to excellence in<br />
quality <strong>Urdu</strong> education in all disciplines of knowledge. It has been accredited 'A' Grade by<br />
NAAC.<br />
The mandate of the <strong>University</strong> is as follows:<br />
• to promote and develop <strong>Urdu</strong> language<br />
• to impart education and training in vocational and technical subjects through the<br />
medium of <strong>Urdu</strong><br />
• to provide wider access to people desirous of pursuing programmes of higher<br />
education and training in <strong>Urdu</strong> medium through Campus and Distance modes<br />
• to provide focus on women’s education<br />
Bearing the mandate, the following points further paraphrase the <strong>University</strong>'s<br />
objectives:<br />
• The <strong>University</strong> is desirous to develop and promote <strong>Urdu</strong> and strives to regain its status<br />
of ‘language of knowledge' by translating and transferring new ideas, concepts,<br />
terminologies and by enriching it with new vocabulary.<br />
• For <strong>Urdu</strong>-knowing aspirants who were deprived of access to higher education, the<br />
<strong>University</strong> shall provide access to higher education through the medium of <strong>Urdu</strong>.<br />
• The <strong>University</strong> plans to create 'knowledge concepts' through the medium of <strong>Urdu</strong><br />
amongst the youth, and to direct and train their creative dispositions to make them<br />
competent to perform their roles in the formation and construction of a forwardlooking<br />
creative society.<br />
CULLC<br />
Centre for <strong>Urdu</strong> Language, Literature and Culture (CULLC) is established with the<br />
approval of <strong>University</strong> Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi in <strong>Maulana</strong> <strong>Azad</strong> <strong>National</strong><br />
<strong>Urdu</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Hyderabad with a vision of ‘protection and promotion of aesthetic and<br />
cultural values of <strong>Urdu</strong> language, literature and its historical consciousness’. The aim<br />
and mission of this centre is ‘to develop itself as a combination of archives, museum,<br />
library & cultural research institution’. CULLC aspires to be perceived as an authority in<br />
<strong>Urdu</strong> Language, Literature and Culture both in terms of collection and conservation.<br />
CULLC has a mission to develop its library as a <strong>National</strong> Repository in the domain of<br />
<strong>Urdu</strong> language, literature & culture with the cooperation of various institutions, libraries,<br />
research centres across the country like Khuda Bakhsh Oriental Public Library, Patna;<br />
<strong>National</strong> Library, Kolkata; Rampur Raza Library, Rampur; A. P. State Archives and<br />
Research Institute, Hyderabad; Osmania <strong>University</strong>, Hyderabad; Idara-eAdabiyat-e-<strong>Urdu</strong>,<br />
Hyderabad; <strong>National</strong> Museum, New Delhi and individuals.
