Southgate House, now known as Hotel
Van Dyk was built in the early 1800’s by
Henry Bowden.
To the right of the main entrance is a single
storey building erected in the 1870s by Charles
Aloysius Hansom, inventor of the Hansom
cab, this was added as a family chapel,
dedicated to the Sacred Heart and Our
Lady of Victories.
It was in 2009 that the current owners took
over the full running of the hotel and
commenced the investment to make Hotel
Van Dyk the finest country house hotel in
the area.
