How can current innovations in antimicrobials meet the lifestyle demands
of today’s consumers while at the same time keeping up with worldwide
regulations? How can antimicrobials be effective and add value to the
products at the same time?
These answers and more will be presented at IntertechPira’s 3 rd annual
in Plastic and Textile Applications conference!
This two day plastics focused program and one day textiles focused program will bring together
experts from the US and Europe who will present their latest developments covering the wide
range of new discoveries and provide predictions for future innovations in antimicrobial trends.
The need for antimicrobials in plastics…
As consumers are becoming more and more conscious of bacteria and their harmful effects,
manufacturers are responding to their needs by offering antimicrobial solutions in a wide variety
of applications, ranging from medical devices to construction materials and consumer goods.
Similarly, the plastics industry is benefiting from antimicrobial technology by reducing microbes
and increasing the life of machinery and safety of workers. Antimicrobial solutions in plastics offer
a win-win solution that promises consumers the way to a safer, healthier life while helping
manufacturers save money and conserve natural resources.
…and textiles
The necessity for antimicrobial finishes in textiles is more present than ever to avoid infections,
control infestation and safeguard the textile product from deterioration. The use of antimicrobials
in the textile market is growing at a high speed rate so it’s crucial to know where this market is
going. Consumers are increasingly aware of the benefits to a hygienic lifestyle and there is a
necessity for a wide range of textile products finished with antimicrobial properties.
Following the popular antimicrobials conference earlier this year, Antimicrobials in Plastic and
Textile Applications will examine some of the most recent discoveries from researchers across
the globe and assess the trends and requirements from the end users’ point of view. Be in
attendance as industry leaders share with you their expertise on combating microbes, product
testing and tackling regulatory compliance issues, environmental and health considerations,
consumer perception of antimicrobial plastics and textiles and much more!
Antibacterial Paper
The concept of antibacterial paper is need-based, a necessity
invoked specially to combat infection of deadly bacteria such
as MRSA. The urgency has opened up avenues for paper
industries to increase their profits by manufacturing valueadded
paper products for a variety of end uses including
hospitals and offices. Antibacterial Paper considers the opportunities in
the paper industry for antibacterial paper, analyzing different grades of
antibacterial paper, various antibacterial agents, applications and legislation.
Photonic Textiles
LEDs and optical fibres are already well established in
industries such as telecommunications, but this technology is
now being applied in the textile industry. Photonic textiles –
fabrics that contain lighting systems and can therefore serve
as displays – are set for explosive growth in industries
including fashion, military and medical. Photonic Textiles explores current
technology developments and identifies the criteria needed to break into a
range of end-use applications.
GM Bioplastics
A decade ago the plastics industry was dominated by
traditional petroleum-based polymers, and the likelihood of
widespread use of biodegradable plastics seemed distant.
Today however with improved formulations and industry
standards, a bioplastics or white biotech industry is becoming
an emerging force as a result of growing interest in environmental
responsibility. Biodegradable plastics manufactured using genetically
modified non-food crops offer a new packaging material that could compete
with petroleum counterparts. GM Bioplastics considers the reluctance
towards GM bioplastics and government legislation affecting this industry, as
well as GM polymer materials, R&D, company activity and price performance.
