Fight Crime.<br />

Deliver <strong>Justice</strong>.<br />

<strong>NMIT</strong>’s <strong>Legal</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Justice</strong> Programs have practical<br />

<strong>and</strong> operational components that attract <strong>and</strong><br />

engage students.<br />

Our students have gained employment in major law firms,<br />

the Department of <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>and</strong> the Victorian Government<br />

Solicitor’s Office.<br />

The Certificate IV in <strong>Justice</strong> is a popular program that students<br />

enrol in as a pre-requisite to their Victoria Police application.<br />

Our students<br />

are taught<br />

Police Officers,<br />

active criminal<br />

barristers <strong>and</strong><br />

criminology<br />

experts.<br />

Our key teachers are active Victoria Police Officers, criminal<br />

barristers, <strong>and</strong> criminology expects who deliver the key aspects<br />

policing <strong>and</strong> other teachers come from corrections, criminal<br />

law firms, <strong>and</strong> criminology backgrounds.<br />

Guest speakers include Customs <strong>and</strong> such companies as Nike<br />

as counterfeit goods production is an international criminal<br />

activity. Students undertake active research, attend a maximum<br />

security prison to interview inmates, <strong>and</strong> undertake crime<br />

scene investigations.<br />

Other key features include personality profiling <strong>and</strong> interview<br />

techniques. Students experience significant personal growth<br />

during these programs due to the nature of the industry as<br />

they deal with criminal aspects from drug <strong>and</strong> alcohol issues<br />

to conflict management <strong>and</strong> crime scene forensics.<br />

Certificate III in Investigations is a new courses for 2014.<br />

Certificate IV in <strong>Justice</strong><br />

National code: 22199VIC<br />

<strong>NMIT</strong>’s Certificate IV in <strong>Justice</strong> is delivered by highly<br />

specialised teachers coming from Victoria Police <strong>and</strong><br />

the justice environment.<br />

Students participate in boot-camp, crime scene investigation<br />

<strong>and</strong> conflict management. Practical placements are offered<br />

at the Department of <strong>Justice</strong>, Police stations, courts <strong>and</strong><br />

community legal centres.<br />

This 17-week program empowers students to become<br />

confident <strong>and</strong> aware of community issues as well as<br />

learning key facets of the legal <strong>and</strong> justice environment.<br />

Students will develop appropriate knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills<br />

relating to the criminal justice system, mediation process,<br />

supervision <strong>and</strong> support for adult offenders, legal research<br />

<strong>and</strong> investigative process.<br />

Past students have secured positions at major law firms<br />

<strong>and</strong> the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office. <strong>NMIT</strong> has<br />

developed industry contacts with law firms, the Department<br />

of <strong>Justice</strong> <strong>and</strong> in many other areas of the justice environment<br />

to assist students with practical placement <strong>and</strong> employment<br />

after graduating from its <strong>Justice</strong> Programs.<br />

Certificate IV In Mediation<br />

National Code: CHC42312<br />

Mediation is preventative law. This course is suited<br />

to those interested in helping those achieve positive<br />

outcomes in matters of disputes.<br />

From a justice <strong>and</strong> legal perspective, dem<strong>and</strong> for mediators<br />

continues to grow with the goal of minimising litigious court<br />

actions <strong>and</strong> keeping disputes out of the court system.<br />

Job prospects range from working as a mediator <strong>and</strong><br />

mediator case worker to specialised case workers in youth<br />

<strong>and</strong> indigenous matters assisting distressed parties work<br />

towards positive resolutions.<br />

Mediators are industry-specific moderators who tackle issues<br />

in a professional round table format in areas ranging from<br />

Neighbourhood <strong>Justice</strong> Centres to specialised mediation for<br />

small businesses, the building industry <strong>and</strong> assisting in matters<br />

at VCAT. Mediation is a new pathway for those interested in<br />

law <strong>and</strong> justice, but with a preventative flavour.<br />

Juvenile justice officer, Mentor, Secure environment<br />
