Statement of Purpose
Many of the films and/or television shows featured in this catalogue are taken from the original films and
recordings with the original casts and artists that were filmed or recorded many decades ago. Some of these
come directly from 16mm or 35mm film, or videotape, which existed long before today’s digital technology and
high-quality standards.
The same applies to the Live in Concert series which were recorded many years ago, in some cases during the
70s and 80s. These feature the original artist recordings.
In some cases the original masters of the black and white films and television series, which again were originally
filmed many decades ago, have been lost or destroyed. Due to this we have had to trawl material from many
collectors and celluloid lovers in order to get copies of these missing masters, in many cases from an individual’s
own private collection. Therefore we have many cans of original films and negatives being stored at
laboratories which we cannot use until a master needs to be produced.
We apologise for the quality of some of the viewing copies that we have available – as these may have been
taken from old film and tape copies themselves the quality may be poorer than expected. However these should
be seen as viewing copies only and are not representative of the final master quality. In all cases the quality is
only as good as the original master and, in some instances, imperfections exist in the original and this quality
is reflected due to the age of the film.
Our prime motive is to preserve the original performances and the feel that the actors created in the
performance.
In addition, through various associates, we have access to additional material that you may wish to have use
of so if a film, actor or actress that you require is not listed in this catalogue then we are likely to be still able
to trace if for you, subject to license and availability.
Important Information
The performers or repertoire contained herein may be available exclusively or non-exclusively and may not be
available in certain territories, or at all.
Infrequently rights granted to us may lapse and therefore may not be available at a particular time. We therefore
reserve the right to withdraw or change any title(s) without notice and potential licensors will need to clear each
item for its usage and available territories to ensure its availability and to avoid copyright or contractual
problems.
No offer of rights is intended or implied. All negotiations are subject to written contract.
The illustrations/images, if any, in this document appear courtesy of various companies or distributors who may
have previously released material using masters licensed to them or in some cases are the original designs,
which have not been released. These are intended as a guide imagery solely and are not necessarily
representative of any finished product or sleeve design relating to the product shown.
With our own in-house designer team we are able to provide you with alternative, more contemporary designs
if needed and are able to re-package to suit specific requirements.
In order to release any of this product in the UK BBFC clearance and certification is required. We have obtained
this on the majority of product shown here. In some cases additional licenses may need to be granted whereby
a film or show has never been released or screened, such as a synchronisation license.
The history of this legendary tank is told with particular emphasis placed on combat footage of the Tiger in action, as
well as footage of the Ferdinand/Elefant on the Eastern front and the Sturmtiger in action in the Warsaw Uprising of
1944.
This programme covers not only evolution of the Panther design but through the usage of combat footage illustrates
the Panther in action on all fronts on which the German Army fought from 1943 until 1945.
This programme traces the long history of this most versatile of German tanks, and documents a combat career that
finally ended with the destruction of the last Mark IV's in Syrian service by the Israeli Army on the Golan Heights in
1967.
The Panzer III emerged as one of the formative images of German military success in the newsreels produced by the
Propaganda Ministry, documenting the Blitzkrieg victories of the early war years.
The Panzer I weighed less than six tons, and was armed with two machine guns and armour barely able to
withstand the impact of such weapons itself. It was with these light-weight workhorses, rather than their heavier
and more glamorous stable mates, that the Blitzkrieg legend was forged.
One of the most common images of German Armour in the combat footage taken by Goebbel's propaganda
cameramen in the second half of the war in Europe, was the Assault Gun or 'Sturmgeschutz' (abbr. Stug)
From 1940 until war's end, German industry produced a plethora of self-propelled weapons for the German Army.
Whilst some of these were purposely designed, others were extemporary affairs developed rapidly using available
weapons and chassis to serve the immediate need of the German Army in the field.
Seemingly present whenever German combat cameramen were filming, armoured cars and half tracks were as vital
to the German war machine as the Panzers.
The reality of the air-war over Germany is demonstrated in this programme, illustrating the battles fought by the
Luftwaffe day fighter squadrons in their attempts to frustrate ever growing U.S. and allied bomber raids.
Using combat footage from all fronts and from film shot in the skies by night and day over Germany, this
programme provides a dramatic account of the contribution made by the heavy fighters of the Luftwaffe in World
War Two.
Designed to assist ground operations, the Stuka was always to be found operating with the leading elements of the
army in France, North Africa, and Russia as 'flying artillery'. In this wide-ranging presentation the Stuka is seen in
action on all fronts, as well as the Hs-129s and Fw-190 in action in Russia.
The German Luftwaffe entered the Second World War with the world's most effective bomber force, built around the
Heinkel He-111 and Dornier D0-17 medium bombers, and the new Junkers Ju-88 'Schnellbomber'.
The decline of the Luftwaffe bombing arm is covered in the operations of the varied aircraft types employed, down
to Germany's surrender in May, 1945. Also shown are flying boats and float planes, seen operating from the
Mediterranean through to the Arctic Ocean.
The Me-262 represented the cutting edge of a new generation of highly advanced combat types, employing jet and
rocket propulsion. Paralleling these aircraft types in the spring of 1945 were the first of Hitler's revenge weapons,
the V-1 Flying Bomb and the advanced V-2 Rocket, that were intended to turn the tide of the war.
Covered in this programme are glider operations in Italy, and even the employment of DFS 230s to re-supply
garrisons on the Oder front in 1945. Also shown are reconnaissance, trainer and liaison aircraft, which made a vital
contribution to the role of the Luftwaffe on all fronts in the Second World War.
This programme depicts the course of the U-boat war in its initial phase in vivid images captured primarily by German
cameramen with much being presented to the viewer for the first time.
This is the third in a unique trilogy that presents events leading up to World War II, as well as the war itself, from
footage that would have been seen by the German nation at the time.
First seeing action during ‘Operation Weseruburg’ - the invasion of Denmark and Norway in April, 1940 - the Green
Devils were the 'fallschirmjaeger' (paratrooper) arm of the Luftwaffe and were to see extensive service in both
air-drop and ground roles, through to the war's end in 1945.
The Green Devils were the 'fallschirmjaeger' (paratrooper) arm of the Luftwaffe and were to see extensive service in both air-dropped
and ground roles, through to the war's end in 1945. However, by 1942, fated by Hitler's judgement that the days of large paratrooper
operations had already passed, the Green Devils were to see out the rest of the war serving primarily as elite ground troops.
This programme will be a boon to all wishing to share the feelings of those fighting this terrible conflict to its
conclusion. It presents a compelling portrait of the last dramatic weeks of the greatest war in history. Much of
what is seen is unique
Mein Kampf (My Struggle) is the book written by Adolf Hitler in which he laid out his political philosophy. Regarded
inside Germany as the bible of National Socialism, it was an accurate blueprint of what he aspired to accomplish
when in power.
During WW2, the need for capable and qualified crewmen to work with and maintain the equipment became vital. In order to keep up
with the demands of warfare, soldiers and engineers were educated partly with training films. This programme shows footage of the
Tiger tanks during Operation Citadel, as well as edited highlights of two German Army training films from late 1943 and mid 1944.
The effectiveness of its artillery arm was one of the dominating features of the German Army on the battlefields of
the Western Front in the First World War. Indeed, a specific requirement of the Treaty of Versailles was that the new
Reichswehr be denied heavy artillery.
This compelling documentary tracks the events that lead to the conclusion of the war in Europe. As the Americans
create a bridgehead on the River Elbe, the Luftwaffe makes a last desperate attempt to counter the fury of the allies
bombing of Berlin.
This episode deals with the early years including the Great War to the emergence of Hitler as German Chancellor. It covers
the collapse of the German economy and subsequent poverty; the SA implementing the anti-Jewish campaigns; the death
of Hindenburg and the turbulent elections and re-building of Germany under the new chancellor.
This episode covers the years 1936 through to the start of the Second World War in 1939. It includes the 1936
Summer Olympics in Berlin; the Nuremburg Rally of the same year; the celebrations for Hitler’s 50th birthday;
German rearmament and the lightning invasion of Poland.
This episode covers early 1940 as Hitler’s forces steamrollered Western Europe. It deals with the invasion and
surrender of Holland, Belgium, Norway and Denmark; the Battle of Dunkirk and the subsequent British evacuation
and the capitulation of France including the victory parades through Paris.
This episode focuses primarily on Hitler’s plans for the invasion of Britain and his personal sparring with Sir Winston
Churchill and the British population. It also includes German attempts to rebuild and to portray the “normality” in
occupied countries and Germany’s continued military build-up.
Over sixty years after the events, eyewitnesses and experts have come together to give accounts of events leading
up to the devastating attack at Pearl Harbor. With interviews woven into new archive accounts of what really
happened, history is re-examined by those who were involved.
Over sixty years after the event, eyewitness and experts have come together to commemorate this occasion and to provide
eyewitnesses accounts of the bombing and the events following on from this devastating attack. With interviews woven into
new archive accounts of what really happened, history is re-examined by those who were involved.
May 8th, 1945, the day World War Two officially ended in Europe. With Hitler’s suicide in his Berlin Bunker on April
30th, the Third Reich fell under the control of his successor, Karl Doenitz. Under Doenitz’s orders, General Alfred Johl
was sent to S.H.A.E.F. (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces) to seek terms for an end to the war.
August 6 1945, 8.15 a.m. the first atomic bomb used in warfare, codenamed ‘Little Boy’, was dropped on
Hiroshima, resulting in the death of 70,000 people. Three days later, on August 9, a second bomb, codenamed ‘Fat
Man’ was dropped on Nagasaki, leading to a Japanese surrender on August 15, marking the end of the war.
In 1940 Panzer divisions stormed across France and the Low Countries, vindicating the role of the tank in modern
warfare and the concept of Blitzkrieg or “lightning war”. Then came the invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 where
they faced for the first time, a superior advisory in the form of the Russian T-34.
At the beginning of the Second World War the standard German anti-tank weapon was the little 37mm Pak 35 and
36, which could penetrate only 1 inch of sloped armour at 500 yards. BY the end of the war the supreme tank
destroyer was the Jagdtiger with an ability to penetrate 10 inches at 1000 yards.
The “poor bloody infantry” has always had the worst of any war. Even so, by the 1930s planners decided to make the infantry a more
effective weapon and the British Government had the Carden-Lloyd Carrier developed. The German Blitzkrieg took this development a
quantum leap further with the Hanomag armoured personnel carrier (APC), employed by Rommel’s Afrika Korps.
From the battlefields of Flanders onwards the ultimate ground weapon was the tank. Developed to break the
deadlock of trench warfare nothing that preceded it could stand against it.
The stalemate of trench warfare in World War I was finally broken by the tank and self-propelled gun, and Germany
capitulated. These weapons came fully into their own in World War II, and combined with the tactics of Blitzkrieg,
gave Germany early supremacy.
A German infantry corporal in the trenches during World War One had been impressed by the capabilities of the tank
– his name was Adolf Hitler. Under his rule the Panzer was developed, and of this series, the Panzer IV was by far
the most important and could fight on equal terms with anything but some of the heavier Russian Tanks.
Join the unsung heroes of submarine warfare who went to sea in submarines, carrying the battle to the enemy in his
own waters, from Pearl Harbour to the surrender in Tokyo Bay.
Etched deeply into the pages of history, Auschwitz conjures up images of death, torture and unimaginable human
suffering. At the time of release only 18 minutes of the footage contained within this DVD had been seen in the
west; despite it being used as damning prosecution evidence at the Nuremburg Trials.
Discovered by Russian troops in July 1944 the Majdanek Nazi concentration and extermination camp near Lubin was
the scene of some of Hitler’s most disturbing handy work. Apart from using carbon monoxide, Majdanek was one of
only two camps to use the deadly Zyklon B to poison victims in its gas chambers.
Between 1941 and 1945 the small fortress town of Theresienstadt in Czechoslovakia became a transit point to the
death camps in the east for thousands of Czech, German, Austrian and Dutch Jews. All those deported to
Theresienstadt were led to believe it was an “end camp” from which they would travel no further
Ravensbruck: Women from more than 20 countries were incarcerated between 1939 and 1945 in the Ravensbruck
concentration camp in Germany. They were subjected to gross maltreatment, humiliation and some were tortured to
death all in the name of the Third Reich.
Whilst Hitler sought the answers to his “Jewish problem” more and more centres of containment sprung up throughout Nazi
occupied Europe. Two such camps were Dachau and Sachsenhausen, and although perhaps not such recognisable names as
Auschwitz, they were no less crucial in the persecution and extermination of the European Jews.
This film is about a group of people, often overlooked, whose lives were changed enormously by the events that
were to follow, a group of vulnerable people who had no part to play in the ensuing conflict but many of whom still
suffer the effects of what happened to them during World War II.
‘The Enemy at the Gates’ tells the story of the fractious relationship between the Führer, the Oberkommando der
Wehrmacht and the succession of generals responsible for the defence of France.
‘Hitler’s Twilight: The Race to Berlin’ tells the story of the desperate German defence of East Prussia, Pomerania
and the River Oder against the last massive Soviet winter offensive in the East.
survived, to wreak bloodthirsty vengeance on the whole of the German resistance movement. This is the story,
horrific, tragic, but also at times almost comical of the most serious attempt to assassinate the warlord. This is the
story of Operation Valkyrie, the plan to kill Hitler, which he himself had approved!
Described as ‘the most famous of all Germans accused of having committed atrocities during the war’ by the Jewish
Virtual Library, Ilse Koch has won a diabolic kind of immortality as the lady with the lampshade made of human
skin.
This program documents the events of Buchenwald ‘37-’42, where prisoners were savagely punished for the
slightest infraction of the rules. Inmates would freeze in -20° temperatures and were worked to death; the guard
dogs enjoyed significantly better living conditions.
The juxtaposition of the Weimar Republic, the cultural heart of Germany, with the cruelty of the Buchenwald
concentration camp, situated mere miles away, would make the region infamous.
Few fighting groups have the prestige, history and battle record of the 9th Infantry Division or as they have become known
the “Old Reliables”. From their first landing on Vietnamese soil the men of the 9th lived up to their reputation and this
programme follows them as they set up base and head out on patrol.
Perhaps the most famous battle of the war, this programme tells the story as 6000 defenders successfully repulsed 20,000
North Vietnamese troops from capturing a strategically important military base. A bloody and fiercely fought encounter, the
fighting lasted 70 days and nights until the North Vietnamese slowly sunk back into the jungles they had emerged from.
This enthralling account examines the main roles played by the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, highlighting
both the combat and non-combat operations carried out. From medical care, precisely orchestrated airstrikes and the all
important supply run the men, women and machines of the US Air Force were an integral part of the war effort.
This programme explains the “wheres and whys” for an American public desperate to understand the conflict in
Vietnam and their participation in it. It places the war within the other great battles in history, what the catalysts
were and how America became involved and hoped to accomplish.
The Viet Cong proved a more than adequate opponent to the technical might and sheer muscle power of the United States armed
forces. Skilled in jungle and guerrilla warfare the VC held an advantage over their formidable enemy, local knowledge. This
documentary consists of rare Viet Cong footage showing their movements during the war highlighting their combat tactics.
Narrated by Charlton Heston, this documentary goes on operations with the 7th Division as they come to terms with the
mission that lies ahead of them. It explains the reasons for US involvement in a war so far from their home borders and
what they aim to achieve through both military and civil action.
It is impossible for any piece of film or eye-witness account to truly capture the horrors, barbarity and inhumanity
suffered by those ill-fated people caught in the murderous concentration camps of the Third Reich.
With the use of wartime archive footage and American military film the effects of the bomb on the towns and people
are examined as well as a brief look at how the US prepared themselves for the real possibility of an atomic attack
on home soil.
Recipient of the 1943 Oscar for Documentary Feature, the Fighting Lady is an educational and entertaining look
at life aboard a US aircraft carrier during World War Two. It follows what has now been identified as the USS
Yorktown through the mundane daily routines of a sailor to the infamous Marianas “turkey shoot”.
This programme explores the hypothetical future of a world in which the United States reverts to isolationism,
withdrawing its military presence and leaving countries to manage international conflicts on their own.
Combat aviation in the 1990s will be ever more exciting with new designs and new technologies taking aircraft
farther and faster than previously thought possible. Air War 2000 puts you in command of these amazing new
developments. Here are the new B-2 stealth bomber and F-117 attack aircraft.
“Fast Jets” is a display of the most exciting aircraft in the world including the Lockheed SR-71 - more popularly
known as “The Blackbird” the most exciting of them all! This impressive aircraft is just one of the jets featured in
this action-packed DVD.
Enemy Bombers takes you over the battlefields of Europe, the Far East and the world’s oceans, putting you into the
cockpit of the most famous Axis aircraft of the war.
Allied Bombers not only includes unique film coverage of the war-winning Avro Lancaster and Boeing B-17 Flying
Fortress but also puts you aboard the Wellesley and Whitley, the Blenheim and Hudson, the Wellington and Mitchell,
the Boston and the Stirling.
Allied Fighters sweeps you into dogfights with Hurricanes and Spitfires against the Messerschmitts during the Battle
of Britain. Join the battle with the Hellcats and Corsairs in the Far East and rejoin the fray with Lightnings, Mustangs,
Thunderbolts, Typhoons and Tempests over Europe.
During the bloody conflict of World War II, and to protect their rapidly moving troops and later to defend against the
devastating Allied bombing, the Germans and Japanese deployed superb fighters, such as the BF 109, FW 190 and
the Zero for supremacy of the skies.
“Fly Low! Hit Hard!” takes you to Vietnam as you fly with the nimbler A-4 Skyhawk, the mighty F-4 Phantom and
the carrier-borne A-7 Corsair. Then move on to such international aircraft as the battle-proven Israeli Kfir, the Anglo-
French Jaguar and Tornado.
Experience the awesome world of a US Navy carrier battle group as an F-14 Tomcat catapults over the bow,
accelerating from 0-170 mph in just 3 seconds. Sail aboard modern “flat tops” seeing their full operations from
flight planning to heart-stopping flight launch.
. “Target Tanks” puts you into the heart of the war in South-East Asia where the combat chopper came of age. There you’ll
fly with the famed Huey in transport and gunship roles, and then with the world’s first dedicated attack helicopter – the Huey
Cobra. On today’s battlefield you’ll see the US and NATO forces training to repel a Warsaw Pact assault.
“Spies In The Sky” deploys you on such spy planes as the Lockheed U-2 over Cuba and the RF-4 Phantom II over
Vietnam. Discover the capabilities of modern airborne sensors and the blending of reconnaissance and electronic
warfare platforms as you fly the Air Force’s Sentry AWACS and the Navy’s Hawkeye.
“Red Star” contains dramatic action footage, some of which was specially released by Soviet authorities to give you
a unique view of major combat machines in action. Join aircrews in training, watch the Mig-29 and Su-7 fly their
missions, and soar with the Mig-25 Foxbat, Mig-27 Flogger D fighters and the TU-95 Bear long-range bomber.
Using archive footage, this DVD looks at the design, development and production of what would become an iconic
bomber - the Vulcan Bomber Mark 1. From early conception to test flights, we examine how this instantly
recognisable plane went from the drawing board to service in the RAF.
In this DVD you will see some of the most spectacular shots ever taken of this most majestic of aircraft including
previously unseen footage from the tanker pilot’s eye view of mid-air encounters on the now famous Victor snake
climb. See what it takes to get the aircraft into the air and what is involved in air and ground crew skills.
Comprised of amateur cine-film and footage donated by several companies involved in the fishing industry, we journey to
Bear Island on board Scottish H542, watch sideways launching at Selby, follow the events of the Cod War and much
more…
A truly unique and fascinating insight into the life of a trawlerman, this DVD is comprised of footage captured by John Gittens, a
Cleethorpes based fisherman. Our starting point is the Coronation Year 1953 and a time when fishing ports were still a hive of
industry. Using primitive filming equipment, John Gittens opens a window onto the harsh existence of going out with the tide.
The home of the Scottish trawling industry is the setting for the two films contained within this DVD. Aberdeen
played host to a huge fishing community, making a living from trawling and long-lining. Both forms of fishing are
explained and examined as we board the Mary Craig and join the maiden voyage of the Glenstruan.
In 1995 the Humber became the busiest commercial estuary in Britain, capable of dealing with 40,000 ship movements in a year and
up to 110 ships in a single day. It plays host to a variety of traffic both commercial and pleasure whether travelling the river or in dock.
In this programme we concentrate on the north bank of the Port of Hull and the King George Dock.
Filmed in the spring of 1996, we focus on the activities in and around one of Britain’s busiest docks, Immingham.
Wherever possible details are given on the commercial and pleasure vessels that frequent this maritime docking port.
The Humber estuary has thousands of visitors every year but few are as spectacular as the replica vessel of the
Endeavour or the Grand Turk, both seen here. Interspersed with modern ships, we also have an opportunity to see
the Sir Winston Churchill and spend time talking to her captain and crew.
The much loved paddle steamers that plied their trade upon the Humber have long since been replaced. However, in
this programme we take a nostalgic look back at the history of the Humber ferry using film, photos, images and
slides to give a personal perspective.
For a brief spell in history “canal mania” swept the land, but when the railways came steaming over the horizon,
the canals were abandoned in favour of speed. Yet the canals survived on a reduced scale, and necessity proved to
be the mother of invention.
When it comes to the old traditional ways of life, there are few examples that are compatible with the day-to-day living of the
21st Century. However, there is an exception, where ancient practices go hand-in-hand with all the advantages of modern
technology and for the thousands of people in Britain today who live aboard narrowboats on the nation’s inland waterways.
The British inland waterways are becoming an ever more popular holiday destination, as narrowboats transport
visitors back in time, to experience a slower pace of life, while travelling through an unspoiled country landscape.
This programme will look in detail at the differences between traditional and contemporary narrowboats and examine
some of the basics one needs to consider before buying a boat. From construction and design to decoration, from
types of mooring to maintenance and supplies, all aspects of owning a narrowboat are looked at.
Life on a narrowboat may be taken at a slower pace but it is never dull - missing bridges, ghostly goings-on,
undiscovered murders, and more than a fair share of people falling overboard: these are the tales of life on the
waterways!
Canals are part of our cultural heritage but today, what was the commercial network of the industrial revolution, has become
the leisure playground of boat-owners and holiday-makers who wish to take the time to discover the wealth and beauty of
the canal system.
This DVD provides a wonderfully unique behind-the-scenes look at the world’s busiest ferry port, Dover. King James I
granted Dover its Royal Charter in 1606, thus in 2006 we celebrated 400 years of that Charter bringing you bang
up to date with an incredible and colourful insight into 21st century ferry operations.
With the benefit of archive footage, let’s have a look at a selection of the colossal vehicles that were used to carry seemingly
impossible loads by rail and by sea.
The Ford Capri is an iconic car. From its development in the late 1960s it became hugely popular and well-loved,
instantly recognisable on the streets of 70s Britain, as much a part of that decade as kipper ties and flared-trousers!
It even became a TV star in the hands of “The Professionals!”
Taken from his personal film archive, Keith Beeden introduces and narrates a journey through 30 years of transport
history from 1960 through to 1986.
“Tickets Please!” as we journey around Britain looking at buses both old and new, some working, others lovingly restored
and on display. We start at Keighley’s Annual Transport Rally and then move to the busy cities of Wakefield and Newcastle to
see buses fulfilling their day-to-day duties
The Routemaster is without doubt Britain’s most instantly recognisable bus, an icon of transport design and a London
landmark in itself. In this DVD we enjoy its 50th anniversary celebrations at the North Weald Rally in 2004, looking
at variations in design and liveries.
Every year a hearty group of car enthusiasts clean and polish their beloved machines and head off to Harrogate
for arguably the biggest event in the MG Owners’ Club calendar. The summer of 2009 not only brought a perfect
summer day for the event but also provided a stunning display of vintage and modern MGs.
If you thought the standard accessories for a Ford Transit were a faded newspaper and empty drink can in the
windscreen, think again! In August 2009 a passionate group of Ford Transit owners gathered at Billing Aquadrome
in Northampton to take part in the inaugural “Transitmania”.
In the opulent surroundings of Harewood House, Rolls-Royce enthusiasts from around the globe gathered in the
summer of 2009 to display what they see as the ultimate in motor car luxury.
pick up tips and enjoy the company of other BMW owners. But even “the ultimate driving machine” isn’t exempt from the
creative modifications and madcap ideas of the enthusiast.
This programme takes you first to the coastal town of Whitby, with its cliff top Abbey, fine beaches and bustling harbour. From there it is
on to Grosmont station for a journey along the line. War Department tender locomotive Dame Vera Lynn and No. 80135 are captured
in action, before joining Lambton Tank No. 5 as she travels the steep climb to Goathland.
For 16 miles, the Severn Valley Railway follows Britain`s longest river, linking gentle countryside and historic towns
which are steeped in the relics of our industrial past. From the new Victorian style station at Kidderminster the
programme journeys North, using the line`s steam locomotives, including the Great Marquess, a K4 class loco.
The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway is the classic holiday line, with steam trains running for seven miles
along the spectacular Torbay coast; a typical West Country Branch Line which revives all the atmosphere of the Great
Western Railway.
The Bluebell Railway was Britain`s first standard gauge, passenger carrying, preserved railway. After 35 years, this
outstanding line, set deep in the Mid-Sussex countryside is still at the forefront of the steam preservation movement.
Beautifully restored stations are complemented by an unrivalled collection of steam locomotives, coaches and wagons.
The programme explores the many attractions which are found along the way, including the Exmoor National Park,
local villages, Dunster Castle, Cleeve Abbey, Coombe Sydenham country park, animal centres and cruises by
motor-ship.
Wales is the birthplace of railway restoration. The small narrow gauge lines that once carried slate from the mines to
the coast led the way in the railway preservation movement.
programme contains an enormous range of railway interest. It samples the activities of the long established Severn Valley
Railway, as well as the massive task undertaken by Peak Rail, re-opening their line through the beautiful Derbyshire Dales.
The North East is a Mecca for keen railway enthusiasts. It includes the only remaining rope hauled incline, at Bowes,
From Garrats of the high Bolivian desert, to narrow gauge through the Guatemalan jungle, this programme, filmed
between 1962 and 1971, features an amazing variety of Latin American Steam, including everything from 2-10-2s
to 0-4-0s. linked by a dramatic journey over the Andes mountains.
In this programme, Harry Dodge has captured the incredible variety of Asian steam, commencing in India with Bengali broad
and narrow gauge steam, the exquisite Darjeeling Railway (considered by many to be the world’s finest railway), Jaipur’s
meter gauge system, and locomotives ranging from the Pacific to a Maharajah’s private train.
Rails all the way from Cape to Cairo were once the dream of Victorian pioneer Cecil Rhodes. In 1965 and 1970, the
dying years of the Age of Steam, Harry Dodge visited and recorded this incredible African legacy.
Firstly we travel to Southern France and take a look at the steam locomotives that are still in operation today. From
the Brittany Peninsular along the Channel Coast to Paris, to Picardy. We see some fine examples of French steam,
including the famous Golden Arrow.
David Sutcliffe, TV cameraman, celebrates 40 years filming railways, with his programme 'FULL STEAM TO
HOLYHEAD'. His films of now forgotten slate railways and branch lines in North Wales have appeared in several
DVD’s.
Up to five broadcast quality cameras followed 'BAHAMAS', 'DUCHESS of HAMILTON', 'OSPREY', 'TAW VALLEY', and
'CLAN LINE' between CREWE and HOLYHEAD from February to May in 1991.
The small narrow gauge lines that once carried slate and other materials from the quarries to the Welsh coast led the
way for the British Railway Preservation Movement.
The North of England, birthplace of the industrial revolution, is home to an enormous variety of steam interest. In
Middleton, near the centre of Leeds, one of the world’s oldest railways has been resurrected, while the Bowes
Railway still works its early rope hauled inclines
The Bluebell Railway was Britain’s first preserved standard gauge railway, and it is still expanding, as is the nearby Kent
and East Sussex, and the Great Central Railway (which has now adopted main line running). The Severn Valley Railway
promotes itself as Britain’s premiere steam railway, while Paignton and Dartmouth is ‘the holiday line’.
Scotland has a proud railway tradition, and its steam heritage has been kept alive by a number of preserved railways.
Foremost are the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway, where the Scottish Railway Preservation Society operates on both their own
and BR’s metals, culminating in a long awaited return of steam to the Highland Main Line.
Every railway enthusiast will enjoy the sights and sounds as we take a look at arrivals and departures of both freight
and passenger trains at the wonderful Wansford Station - home to the Nene Valley Railway
Filmed between 2001 and 2004 we visit the well known main line station of Nuneaton, and see the many changes
in the infrastructure of the station and track work such as new platforms and the reinstatement of the flyover at
Nuneaton.
In this DVD we take an extensive look at freight and passenger trains at the newly refurbished Rugby station. We filmed during the
construction of the new station in 2001 and 2003.
With Classes 37, 47, 57, 58, 66 and various classes of DMUs, this is a truly packed out rail action DVD filmed
between 2000 and 2003.
Jane Austen was born in 1775 and died in 1817. It may have been a short life, and seemingly uneventful, but for
the world of literature it was a very valuable one.
In her short life Jane Austen wrote six novels; ‘Sense & Sensibility’, ‘Pride & Prejudice’, ‘Northanger Abbey’, ‘Mansfield Park’,
‘Emma’, and ‘Persuasion’. These well loved English classics may have once been regarded as the province of the literature
student, but due to recent film and television productions they have gained mass following on both sides of the Atlantic.
Jane Austen Lived in a dramatically exciting period of English History. Although her six novels are more concerned
with the manners of courtship, marriage and money than the social change and political intrigue of the time, there is
a background steeped in Regency atmosphere.
This programme tells the story of Marian Evans, from her pious Midland childhood, through her development into an
independent minded academic, before emerging as the novelist George Eliot.
This programme tells that story, charting the progress of the Bronte Sisters from their childhood writing collaborations
with Bramwell, to their independent literary achievements which are acclaimed the world over.
1798 was an important year for Edward Jenner, a country doctor from Berkley in Gloucestershire. Already a fellow of
the Royal Society after discovering the anti-social nesting behaviour of cuckoos, Jenner published a paper
documenting his success using the mild cowpox virus to immunise his patients against smallpox.
For many visitors, Liverpool is one giant theme park... and the theme is the Beatles. At least, such is the suggestion
of Spencer Leigh, Liverpudlian, Disc Jockey for BBC Radio Merseyside and investigator of the Beatles phenomenon
for over forty years.
Together with Spencer and Beatles historian Ray O’Brien, we explore over sixty key Beatles sites, including the
Cavern Club, and the homes where John, Paul and George were brought up, as well as no less than three houses
with associations to Ringo’s childhood.
‘The Beatles London’ is without doubt the most detailed investigation of the legendary group at this point of their
career. It is guaranteed to provide new insights both for the Beatles fan and the dedicated chronicler of the history of
popular music.
‘The Concise Beatles London’ is a detailed investigation of the legendary group at the London period of their careers,
and is guaranteed to provide new insights in to the Fab Four, the Beatles.
This wide-ranging program visits locations up and down and on both sides of the River Mersey where the Beatles
honed their talents. Our destinations include localities as varied as Bootle, the tough industrial town to the north of
Liverpool, and New Brighton, the fairground paradise of the Liverpudlian.
Art Wood, older brother of the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, ex-vocalist with Alexis Korner and founder of the
Artwoods takes us on a tour of rock'n'roll London, showing where the seeds were sown for the blues explosion that
defined the sound of London in the 60s.
In 1953, a young man stepped into a recording studio to cut a disc as a present for his mother. A year later, he
returned to Sun Studios, and musical history was made. Mike Freeman takes us on a personal guided tour of the
Elvis Memphis sites.
We visit getting on to 50 different locations, including not only the famous Sun Studios, Elvis’ High School, and his
teenage home, but everywhere Elvis.
The members of the band came from across the country, and in Freddie’s case, from across the globe. But it was in
London that it all came together for them, and it is their London we invite you to visit with us.
A visual feast, linking one of the most beautiful cities of England, the magnificent medieval university town of
Cambridge, with the heartland of the British sixties musical revolution, London, in a multi-hour whirlwind tour of all
the key locations associated with this group.
This program looks at the effect that first the Border Wars and then the Civil War had in moulding this fighter for
the Confederacy into the man who, along with his bushwhacking comrades, created the prototype of the American
gangster.
Marie Antoinette, the young and beautiful Austrian princess who was strategically married into the most prestigious
monarchy in Europe, was to become the symbol for the wanton extravagance of the 18th century aristocracy and
was to be France’s last queen.
Boudicca…or Boadicea….rose up against Rome, and in doing so became a symbol in later British consciousness of
many things: of the ability to withstand oppression, of the courage of wronged innocence, and of the nobility of
standing up against overwhelming odds.
Miraculously preserved over the centuries, its artistic importance was unrecognised until an essay by J. R. R. Tolkien
(The Lord of the Rings) revealed its unity and multi-dimensional structure. Beowulf is now regarded as the most
important manuscript the Anglo-Saxons have handed down to us.
Find out about the wondrous land of Narnia, and why C.S. Lewis created it. Discover for yourself who the White
Witch was supposed to be based on, and learn all about fauns, wolves, badgers and Aslan, and where they fitted
into Lewis’s world.
The World of Philip Pullman is constructed around an exclusive interview with the acclaimed author, and scripted by
his friend and Pullman scholar Nick Tucker, one of Britain's best known critics of children's literature.
Whispers through the Willows’ charts the life of the creator of Mr. Toad, Ratty, Badger, Mole and a host of other best loved
characters. Yet although today we remember Kenneth Grahame for presenting us with these endearing creatures, when Wind in
the Willows was first offered to a world that looked to Grahame for nostalgic tales of childhood whimsy, the reception was frosty.
With Shakespeare’s Stratford, Artsmagic DVD presents a detailed tour of the city that produced the greatest
playwright in history.
Together with our host, Dr. Tony Williams, we visit the locations that went to form the imagination of Dickens, the
sites of the prisons and the workplaces of the poor, the Inns of Court and the Houses of Parliament, the theatres and
the auditoria where he gave his hugely successful readings, the museums and the churches.
In the company of Dickens expert Tony Williams we visit this epic writer's home in Doughty Street (now a museum
dedicated to his life and works) where he completed Pickwick Papers, Oliver Twist, Nicholas Nickleby and others.
THE LIFE OF LEWIS CARROLL
Our journey takes us through areas which were no-go in Dickens’ time, and down Kingsway, the thoroughfare that
swept away a multitude of back streets and in so doing created a demarcation line between the law courts and the
world of theatre. Both these areas were to attract the assiduous attention of the writer.
Lewis Carroll (1832-98) was an English writer, logician, mathematician, Anglican deacon and photographer. He
excelled in two of these fields, photography and writing.
Known as the father of English literature, Geoffrey Chaucer's literary eminence was achieved despite having lived in
one of the most troubled centuries the world has known, and one particularly fraught for England.
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is one of the greatest works of English literature, acclaimed by scholars as the
equal of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. It has inspired children’s stories, translations in prose and poetry, plays,
animations, films and an opera.
In January 1961, Bob Dylan arrived at Greenwich Village, the very place for a folksinger-poet. The Village had
already gained a reputation for Bohemian ways, and had given birth to a generation of beatniks, courtesy of a
generation of beat poets, including Allen Ginsberg.
First published in 1922, ‘Ulysses’ was the piece of work that made the name of its author, James Joyce. Its
publication was seen to expand the domain of permissible subjects in fiction. A remarkably ambitious novel, a
labyrinthine work of great humour and technical accomplishment.
We visit the homes where he and Yoko Ono lived together, the eateries, the recording studios, and finally Strawberry
Fields, the spot in Central Park where New Yorkers repaid their respect to the man who had fallen in love with their
city.
Regarded by many as the most important influence on the pop music scene, and as the leader of the ultimate
supergroup, The Beatles, John Lennon's significance has been seen to spread far beyond the rock'n'roll arena.
Our tribute to this extraordinary phenomenon, The Secrets of the Golden Compass, features an exclusive extended
interview with the author. With Pullman himself guiding us on our journey through his other worlds we are providing
you with an insider’s view of this controversial epic.
With the help of reconstructions and eye-witness accounts this DVD examines the drugs, the girls, the financial
meltdown and the pivotal role of Colonel Tom Parker leading up to the death of a legend.
This DVD includes over two and a half hours of high-octane Quad/Moto X racing action from names like nine times champion Paul
Winrow, Stefan Murphy and Frenchman Jerome Bricheux, all battling for the title of “King of the Beach”. So let the racing begin!!
Whether it’s your intention to just shoot a few clays at the local club for fun or to go on to more serious competition this DVD
will be a helpful reference. You will enjoy Rod’s laid back approach to the way he instructs his pupil Liam Dale and how he
instills the basic knowledge and confidence in the novice shot.
So, Liam Dale has put into practice the things he learnt in our first programme and is now hitting a respectable percentage of the targets
he shoots at. He now understands the importance of safety and a lot of the more technical aspects of the sport. It’s time to return to
the Shalden Shooting School in Devon and to get top coach Rod Brammer to take him onto the next level.
In this, the last of the three programmes in the series, you’ll get an idea of what it would really be like to be
considered an advanced shot. Although you are now at a pretty competent level, the title “advanced shot” is still
best reserved for characters like those that will be teaching you today.
This programme has been designed to assist and inspire the urban birdwatcher to make the most of viewing the
wildlife, quite literally, on their own doorstep. Although it’s not essential to name a bird to enjoy watching it, most
people with an interest in ornithology like to be able to make an accurate identification.
Packed with information to help you get the best from bird watching expeditions, you can embark on a delightful
journey of discovery by enjoying a selection of the best-loved British countryside birds
Filmed in Hampshire, this DVD joins a hard working team of heavy horses and owners clearing larch trees from what
was originally an oak wood. This is an opportunity to see how these horses became legendary for their character,
strength and endurance.
This DVD is set in the beautiful countryside of rural Devon, as we visit champion plough woman Anne Williams and
her shires, Leo and Lupin (brother and sister). Anne explains how to prepare the shire horses for work in the fields
around the farm.
Mark Downes is one of the world’s most expert canal anglers, and in this fascinating film he shows how to succeed
on canals using bloodworm and jokers - baits which the average angler finds difficult to use successfully.
In the rural surroundings of the Grand Union Canal, close to bustling Milton Keynes, Lee Deeks puts the many skills
taught to him by top angler Keith Arthur.
Jan Porter first made his name on the River Trent in the early 1980s, fishing the swimfeeder. Be it block and feeder
with maggot, or the open ended feeder using caster and hemp combinations, Jan has very few equals when
employing this devastating method.
Big fish expert Des Taylor takes us bait fishing for pike at Thorpe Park in Surrey. He explains and displays in
some detail the rigs, methods and a number of the best fish baits. Different fish, such as trout, roach and
mackerel are used.
Without doubt, the ability to fish the stickfloat with any degree of competence is the hallmark of the very best
anglers. In order to make this difficult method work to its best, requires not only great skill but also a thorough
knowledge of balanced tackle..
The graceful art of fly-casting is a mystery to the casual observer and most newcomers to the sport of game fishing.
Here, with the help of one of the country’s most famous casting experts Michael Evans; we go a long way to solving
that mystery.
In this the second programme of the series, it’s time to move on to the larger still waters. Having mastered the basic
skills of small still water flycasting, with the overhead and roll cast, we must now expand our repertoire and venture
into slightly more advanced territories.
No matter how many years you may enjoy the sport of fly fishing, there will never be a moment that gives you
more of a thrill than when you catch your very first trout. For the benefit of those who have yet to experience that
pleasure, we bring you a DVD which will most definitely assist you in your goal.
Today, John Horsey demonstrates how to catch trout, bank fishing at Bristol Water’s Blagdon Lake. Not from the
bank in the literal meaning of the word, but rather up to his thighs in the margins! John is a professional trout
fishing guide who spends most of his time either here on Blagdon Lake, or alternatively at Chew Valley Lake.
Fly fishing for trout on Bristol Water’s Blagdon Lake can be a daunting prospect for the uninitiated. Whether from the
bank or boat, the sheer size of the reservoir is intimidating to say the least. Not so for our expert John Horsey, who
spends most of his life, either here or on Chew Valley Lake.
The goal of most fanatical carp anglers is the capture of a 30lbs specimen in British waters, in this programme we
will see that other extraordinary species Des Taylor do just that… twice!
Mick Brown, considered one of the best pike anglers in the UK, explains the tackle he’ll be using and shows us
some of his massive array of artificial lures. Firstly he’ll demonstrate his skills in the comparative comfort of the
early summer months, landing pike from a secluded estate lake.
Pound for pound the barbel has to be the strongest fighting fish in UK freshwater. It is always a surprise and a
pleasure to see the size that this particular species of river fish can grow to and to get a barbel on your line is compelling
angling indeed. What better way to learn the skills, than from top all-round angler Des Taylor and Bob Nudd MBE.
Simon Gawesworth has filled roles as both an England International and the team manager and coach. Here’s an
excellent opportunity to watch, listen and learn from a maestro doing his thing on both river and reservoir.
You will learn here which are the best hook and ground baits, what rigs work and best of all you’ll see an expert in
his field catching a superb bag of tench at the excellent Decoy Lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire.
When you first catch silver fish it is not easy to spot the difference between roach and rudd. As soon as you can,
(and Bob shows you how) it is certainly easier to target one species or the other and catch yourself a plentiful bag
of fish.
Today we visit Pisces Fishery on the Cambridge/Norfolk border to witness a session with the four times World Coarse
Fishing Champion Bob Nudd MBE. Bob explains the methods, baits and rigs that he uses and passes on some of the
wealth of knowledge and experience that comes only from an expert of his stature.
What better way to get to grips with the basics of fly fishing and to broaden your approach, than to learn from a
programme which features former England International team member, coach and manager Simon Gawesworth and
the one time European Fly Fishing Champion Iain Barr.
Whether it be pole fishing, or float fishing with rod and line that’s your particular bag. They’re both featured here
and who better to demonstrate the different techniques, than three of the best anglers in the country. Bob Nudd
MBE. Will Raison and finally our old mate and big fish expert; Des Taylor.
So you want to learn how to catch carp… well who would know more about that subject than the journalist, author
and broadcaster Julian Cundiff? Julian has specialised in the capture of carp, written countless articles and broadcast
several programmes about the skills that he’s developed and the methods he’s used to catch fish throughout the years.
The tench has a special appeal to probably the majority of today’s anglers as it’s a species on which many have cut
their teeth. . In this programme we’re going to try and “come to grips” with this species by placing our confidence in
the hands of specialist angler David Maddocks.
When two of the country?s best fishermen explain their methods and tactics for catching roach, you are in for a
bumper amount of useful tips and advice. Des Taylor & Tom Pickering give us two different characters with two
different methods in two different waters.
Voted the “greatest angler of all time” in 2004, world renowned and highly respected fisherman John Wilson
presents a detailed and entertaining guide to catching chub, roach and pike.
Every two years the world’s aviation and aerospace industries gather at Farnborough in the south of England for one
of the largest air shows on the planet. The 2008 show was special for two reasons - not only did it mark the 60th
anniversary of the show but also celebrated 100 years of flight in Britain.
Sue joins regular “car booter” Marina Turley to see what makes for a good bargain, discover how to haggle for a
good price and learn some useful tricks of the trade. Whether you are a buyer or a seller (or perhaps just intrigued
by the whole thing!), this DVD is a fascinating and fun look at the world of the car boot sale.
Containing footage from the UK’s trouble spots and riots around the world, it is a shocking but true look at the many
moods of confrontation – the mindless rampage, the peaceful protest that gets out of control, the minor incident
that suddenly turns into a state of emergency.
Watch the destruction of chimneys, bridges, cooling towers and hotels – including the one exploded for the
blockbuster film Lethal Weapon 3. Sometimes, even the best laid plains go awry with buildings that fail to collapse
or cause mass destruction to the surrounding area, occasionally with tragic consequences.
Narrated by Lewis Collins and featuring a rare interview with Iranian embassy hostage Trevor Lock, this DVD uses
news footage from across the globe to examine the high-tension, violence and often fatal circumstances involved in
a siege situation.
Enjoy the thrills and spills, the frights and delights of one of the world’s greatest travelling spectacles - The Hull Fair.
From its ancient beginnings as a means of selling and promoting local goods to the adrenaline charged excitement of
modern rides, this DVD gives a brief look at one of Europe’s most exciting events.
Nigel James discovered an amazing array of subject matter; a collection of weighing scales, a man who has amassed
over 2,000 blow lamps, scale models of hand made Gypsy caravans which take up to six months to make, a vast
selection of 1950s road making equipment, old tools and road rollers to name just a few.
The years of the Second World War were incredible years for the American entertainment industry. Actors, singers,
The Western is the most uniquely American form of film and it has been a vital part of the film industry from the
very start. From The Great Train Robbery in 1903 to the present there have been more than 4000 movies made
about the American West.
Of all the singing cowboys there is no doubt that Gene Autry and Roy Rogers were the most popular but among
lovers of Western folk music the most highly regarded was Tex Ritter.
All movie cowboys must know how to ride a horse but some do it better than others. None did it better than Ken
Maynard, who began his movie career in 1924 following years as a trick rider in Wild West shows.
‘Stagecoach’ in 1939 turned John Wayne into a major attraction but by then he had already been a star of minor
Westerns for some ten years. The best of these Westerns is ‘Born To The West’, which was produced by Paramount
Pictures in1937.
Three veteran movie stars - Dick Powell, Charles Boyer and David Niven - formed their own production company, Four
Star Television, and produced Hollywood’s first TV anthology series, Four Star Playhouse, in 1952.
No police force has ever received more glamourous attention from Hollywood than the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the
legendary RCMP. In the golden age of Western movies almost every cowboy star made at least one appearance as a scarlet
