Hello again. At the beginning of October I got an E-mail
from Steve Bolle, he had his HZ GTS on the market
through Carpoint.com, after forwarding it on to members
I thought I might have a look at the car myself. I gave
Steve a call and checked it out and after a creative
accounting presentation to Mary Louise we bought the
car. The car is an absolute dream but thirsty, it passes
everything but a bowser.
Many thanks go to Steve and his partner Deolinda who
kept the car in excellent running order and under
unfortunate circumstances had to sell their pride and joy,
they had several interstate offers but they preferred to see
the car sold locally.

“CHCC Raffle”
And the Winner is
The club raffled a special “club shirt” with all 15
Holden Supercar drivers from the 10 anniversary of
the Sky City Triple Crown round at Hidden Valley
this year. The raffle was drawn at the Club X-mas
Bowls nite at Mindil Beach Saturday the 17 th of
November and the winner was Bob Blakeway.
Myself and Mary Louise had a blast at the Rural Rally,
taking out the latest toy, we had an absolute ball, Many
thanks to Grumpy, John and the committee for putting it
on. For the last club function of the year we all had an
enjoyable night with the x-mas break up and Bowls nite.
Like the majority, my bowling skills are somewhat
average but that didn’t deter me having a great night.
After a quick run through town beer, pizza’s and cake at
Mindil beach was a great way to cap off the night.
I trust that the club activities have made for an enjoyable
year, on behalf of the Committee I wish you all a safe and
merry Christmas and will see you all again in the New
Year

With donations and the proceeds from the raffle we
were able to present Dave Loder with a check on the
night for $2000 at the Bowls night. Many thanks to

““All The Goss”
All praise to staff at MVR, were great on the day we
transferred the rego of the HZ into out name. We also put
the HG Munro on VCC plates, transferred the GTS HG
plates to our Camry, ordered personalised VCC plates
HG GTS for the HG Munro and also ordered
personalised plates HZ GTS for the HZ, with the whole
lot taking over an hour. What a mission.
More praise to Shannon’s insurance, I rang them up to
insure the HZ and combined with the fact that we now
have a multiple car policy and that the HG is now on club
plates my premiums actually went down, so effectively I
got the HZ insured for free. Gotta be happy with that.
“Bon Voyage”
Tracey Healey and her partner Barry are living
everyone’s dream and bought a pub, they are shutting up
shop in Darwin and heading off to Hines Hill in Western
Australia, about two and a half hours out of Perth. Tracey
welcomes all members passing through to pop in and
have a chat and a beer.
Barry and Tracey have traditionally hosted the Bathurst
days on their block at Girraween. We wish you both all
the best in you new endeavour.
Tracey has also got her HK up for sale, it’s a lovely aqua
sedan in a beautiful original unrestored condition, It
needs a new rear seat though as it got damaged in a scrub
fire (it was out of the car at the time)
“Club BBQ”
The club has recently purchased a new BBQ, tough
enough to handle the rigours of the Shannon’s
Extravaganza weekend and other club functions. It’s an
absolute beauty and will last a lifetime.
Wayne Carmody from Kleenheat gas gave us a great deal
and is extending the service to club members. So for all
things gas pop on down to Kleenheat and receive a 10%
discount.
Alan Stalkers XU1 Torana is coming along nicely with
the engine finally fitted to the car, as usual there were a
few hiccups along the way. With a little help from
Grumpy they spent hours on the car only to find no
matter how hard they tried the extractors didn’t fit Oh
well back to the drawing board, or should I say speed
shop.
Has anyone else out there seen the new ad for the brand
new VE ute, it starts of in a rural outback setting with a
guy loading up an FJ ute which the morphs into an EH,
from there the scenes change and it transforms into a HK,
from there a HQ then to a VT Commodore up till its last
change to the all new VE. It is a sensational ad that would
stir the heart of any old Holden fan.

“VCC Inspector”
I got my HG Munro on VCC plates the other day
inspected by Ivan’s Mechanical Services. Ivan Pederson
is registered with MVR as a VCC inspector. I have
known Ivan for many years and he has always been more
than helpful on countless occasions. If you are planning
to put you car on VCC plates give Ivan a call on
0415954073. Ivans mechanical service is located in
McKinnon rd opposite the 11 mile wreckers. Remember
the form will have to be signed of by an executive
committee member.

Rex Hales has got his HT Premier off the road for a
bit of a freshen up. Everything from the windscreen
forward is off the car at the moment, Rex had some
rust issues with the inner guards and sub-frame but
after ratting Ray Orr’s Premier and a visit to a rust
repairer it is now ready for reassembly. With all that
work it was time for a little mechanical upgrade as
well, ready to go into the car is a stroked 383 small
block chev. Rex has also soured a new centre and
bearings etc for his 8” Ford diff from the states. Rex
has roots in Darwin’s drag racing scene and I dare
say this car will be a rocket once back on the road.

“Previous Functions”
Bathurst, Sights were set for a great day for Holden fans,
took off early from Caltex Berrimah for a quick blast out to
Girraween. It all went down hill from there, both Toll cars
suffered brake problems (a spectacular point when Rick Kelly
blew a tyre and speared off into the sand at the chase and
skidded across the track right in front of Lowndesy) and when
the rain started Skaife speared off into the wall Our last hope
was Murphy but alas it was not to be. I hate to say it but Fords
took the podium and there were only two Holdens in the top
ten. A sad day for all.
A nice line up of Holdens
Only problem was navigator Maureen had missed a page of
instructions – bloody organisers using double sided printing.
It was then calculated that “most” people were able to turn the
page and read instructions. Every one had the opportunity (as
per the instructions) to call in to Grumpy’s and get a beer.
Some did a “U” turn, more than once in some cases, at the gate
and those that went in didn’t ask. A cheap day for Grumpy and
more for him. Those that didn’t go in were penalised 5 points.
Besides that, it was still an enjoyable day out with friends. I
would like to thank our hosts Barry Heydon and Tracey Healey
who put on a fantastic spread and Eric and Sue Hutton for the
delicious BBQ. John Denton supplied “ole 05” the Brocky
portaloo and spent the rest of the day propping up the bar.
Undoubtedly next year Holdens will be triumphant.
“Good Company”
From then on it was very orderly with most arriving at the
finish point almost on time. A group arrived almost
simultaneously so they were able to give invalid John a hand to
erect the marquee. Alan & Ian cooked a magnificent lunch and
over a few beers the presentations were made to Peter & Helen
Crafter for coming last (the “NANA” award) on points
although their distance was almost spot on.
1 st place getter went to whinger Denton although he arrived 21
minutes early. 2 nd place to Colin and Wendy Johnson who were
almost on time and travelled the required distance 3 rd to Wilko
and Mary-Louise who also arrived 13 minutes early. There is
something to be said for –“You will never be late in a 308”.
“Rural Rally”
On a lovely Sunday morning on the 14 th October, after several
members enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast or just coffee and
toast, 10 cars set off from “The Sticky Beak Shop” on a route
to places not travelled by most before. In fact a bridge was
opened only on the Thursday before to cater for this great
event. The trouble Grumpy went to so it could all happen to
plan. Grumpy & John flagged every one off and wished them
well with a cap and stubbie cooler in hand kindly donated by
Tom Finlay
The first obstacle was when John Denton abused John because
the previous roundabout wasn’t a “T” junction and he was only
10 minutes from the start.
A great run with lovely people and some fantastic cars with
Wilko and Mary Louise parading the new HZ GTS and his new
boxer shorts, (part of his 3 rd prize) It would have been nice to
have more members supportive of this activity but Oh well!
you missed out and those that went had a bloody good time –
again. It was great to see new member Karen Marchant with
kids, in the old FE Variety club car and her sister and family in
OLD YELLA, the Ex Gary Boyd Variety club car. Also to
newer members, Jarrod & Aaron Hall who had a ball, in the LX
Hatchback. The marquee was then disassembled in record time
with great precision (after receiving copious amounts of flack
Grumpy did shut up during the task which made it a lot easier)
and every one went home.

“2007 XMAS Bowls Night”
Who needs an event organizer when you have 35 bowlers
(and a few non bowlers) turn up and get organized and
underway on time, lowers Wilko’s stress levels.
If only we had a hidden camera to blackmail the players,
the styles were something Rudolph Nureyev would have
found hard to perform.
Wilko led the parade somewhere around Darwin and
ended up at Mindil waiting for the late Pizza delivery.
They must have been either good or everyone was hungry
as they didn’t last long.
“Prez, Jack Elliot and Greg”
As I didn’t get to study the players I do have a copy of
your scores, although some shouldn’t be called scores
(mine included) Lane 11, Jeff, Elise, Rhian, Trev, Tom &
Helen had a combined score of 1142, Lane 12consisting
of Bob, Caz, Greg, Mikey, Nic and Pete rolled 1080.
Sorry Mikey but I had to mention you got a 45 in game
one. Lane 13, wicked Wendy, Phil, Jack, Colin, the four
oldies and young guns Jared and Aaron squeezed 1201
for both rounds. 75 was a good effort Phil…Lane 14,
wacky Wilko, John, Kate, Aliso, Jera and Dave managed
1173 but I believe some players had to leave early so no
idea who finished the games but it was recorded that
Aliso managed 65. Lane 15, Chris, Yvonne (?) Jimmy,
Shann, Ian and another John waggled the tail to score
1153 Lane 16, Katis, Greg, Elliot, Grump (who) and
Lynn scooped the pool with 1221 and only 5 of us but it
must be noted Katis, alias Mrs Wilson does do a bit of
moonlight bowling in some competition. Maybe that’s
why she top scored with 324 overall.
After flogging a dead horse to bits trying to sell the last
few raffle tickets we managed to hold the draw. Results
published elsewhere in the newsletter. Much to the
disgrace of Grumpy it was one of his mates who had the
lucky ticket. He ripped two out of the book instead of one
so bought the second “mistake” ticket only to take out the
prize. Thanks to all those who purchased tickets, or
should I say complete books.
“Dave Loder accepting a check for $2000”
From the screams and howls and the use of those handy
rails it sounded like everyone enjoyed the night. Jimmy T
holds the record for the most number of side hits as I lost
count of the number of times the ball bounced of the rails
and still didn’t hit a pin, better luck next time son.
At the end of the night it seemed those who made/stayed
to the end enjoyed another successful evening, or was
that late night. Don’t leave boxes in the back of your car
when someone helps get rid of the empty pizza
boxes…everything I had in the ute went to the dumpster.
But I did enjoy the comments when trying to retrieve my
stuff.

I bought my first car off my father when I was
sixteen, it was a 48-215 I paid $40 for it. It could be
said that it was a bit of a wreck but adequate enough
to get me to school and be the envy of my mates. I
kept it for around 12 months until I started work and
required something a bit larger to sleep in when I
went surfing. An FC stn wagon suited the bill
perfectly, after killing two engines I took out a loan
and upgraded to an EJ. I customised it with wide
tyres and surfboard racks to look really COOL.
Eventually it could not hack the pace; other cars kept
running into it. I then tried a Gemini in 1976, a LJ 4
door Torana in 1977, HJ stn wagon 1977, a HX stn
wagon 1977 (ash trays were full). The HX I kept
until 1981 then lost the plot and bought 4WD’S.
1992 I went back to my beloved HOLDENS with a
VP stationn wagon then VR Calais.
Over the years I’ve always liked the HK-G-T series
Monaro mainly because my parents owned a HG
GTS 186s. Then a few years ago the HK Monaro I
now own came up at the right time and takes pride of
place in my new garage. But not to be out done by
my wife Katisha as she now owns a glorious red 02
Monaro.
HOLDEN blood runs thick in the family, Elliot, our
eldest son has two LC Torana’s and a VB
Commodore, Kane, our youngest son owns an LJ
Torana as well as a VL Commodore.
We call our place “MEMORY LANE”

plans yet but wait for a special treat.
July 27 th Shannons Extravaganza Alice Springs
Who’s for a road trip, in conjunction with other
clubs the committee is organising a trip down to the
Red Centre with other Top End clubs to partake in
the show and do a little sight seeing (pub
crawling???) along the way. It is envisioned that we
would probably take a few days to get down there
picking up Katherine members along the way,
arriving Saturday to take part in other motoring
activities, have the show on the Sunday and then a
couple of days to come home. Details are yet to be
finalised but word has it that on Saturday there may
be a special Drag meeting and a special function that
night at the Transport Hall of Fame.
