Please take the time to have a look at what tasks are required to be completed with your child. Results from these Assessment Tasks go towards your child’s final Report grade. Static Electricity Year 6 students have been studying static electricity for their science lessons this week. They have done a number of fascinating experiments such as charging a plastic pen and using it to pick up paper, charging a rubber balloon and making their hair stand on end, and making balloons stick to walls. They also saw an exciting demonstration of a van der Graaf generator where they saw tin saucers fly through the air. The experiment shown in the photo is of some students bending water towards a charged balloon. We can do some really cool things with static electricity. Preparing students for a life of worth ... SENIOR COLLEGE News Important information for Year 12 students: USC’s new study offerings, plus USC Options Q&A Evening (17 Dec) With the release of OPs on 15 December, Year 12 students may find they have questions about their study options for 2013. The perfect time to get answers to these questions and learn about USC’s new study offerings for 2013 is at: USC OPTIONS Q&A EVENING Monday 17 December anytime between 4pm and 6.30pm Students can get one-on-one advice, attend seminars, tour the campus, gain insight from USC students and get tips on thriving in their first year of uni. Parents can also get tips about supporting their student. Students who are unable to attend and would like advice about studying at USC in 2013 can contact Student Administration on (07) 5430 2890 or email information@usc.edu.au. Bookings are preferred. Register at usc.edu.au/options or phone 5456 5000. The graduating Year 12 class of 2012 will be attending their Formal at the Hervey Bay Community Centre on Friday November 16. Staff, students and friends are welcome to support the students by watching their grand arrivals at the Community Centre from 5:15pm. PREFECT News Placement Scholarship A letter was recently received to the College from the PICSE Science Education Officer, informing us of the successful application for a Primary Industry Centre for Science Education Industry Placement Scholarship program at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Ryan Rach was selected from 40 other student finalists. The application process included an interview from which the final 20 students from 13 schools were chosen. Congratulations to Ryan and we look forward to hearing about the exciting journey this pathway will take him on. For the first time Riverside Christian College has elected a prefect cohort for 2013. College Captains, Vice Captain, Christian, Cultural, Community and Academic Prefects will structure a leadership group that will lead and assist in everyday College life. The positions and their leaders can be seen below: College Captains: Callum Perotta O’Sullivan & Lucy Kinbacher Vice Captain: Emily Rockemer Representing the student body at formal occasions both within and outside the college Greet Parents and students entering the College grounds Help with running of Chapel and Assemblies Monitor Tuckshop Conduct tours of the College for prospective parents and guests Academic Prefects: Felicity Holder & Cheneya Terelst‐Mallinson Distribute study guides and timetables Organise lunchtime study and support groups Promote and contribute positively to the College culture of learning Community Prefects: Phillipa Elliot, Kiamba Rogers Co‐ordinate a fundraiser each term that supports local community groups Organise and Coordinate social activities for students Promote student wellness and healthy lifestyle choices Cultural Prefects: Ellie McCarthy, Shannon England Assists to co‐ordinate, promote and organise College musicals, bands, choirs (sign‐on, rehearsals) and other art related College events Co‐ordinate the display of the arts within the College and outside locations Emily Rockemer Co‐ordinate the College yearbook committee Christian Prefects: Bronte Jeffs, Jack Taylor, Sarah Nelson, Johanna Hoodcamp Give devotions and prayers for staff and students Assist with Chapel services Offer Pastoral care for all students The Prefect Cohort has already begun organising community events such as the Girls Night In, Carols By Candlelight and Study Buddy Sessions.
