Memberships in most areas <strong>of</strong> the Centre are lower than this comparable month last year, although<br />

they are still higher than budget. The particular areas that are most notably lower are relating to the<br />

Gym and Group Fitness. Rather than a drop in service and/or marketing this may be partly due to a<br />

recommended capacity for memberships at this centre being 2,500 members. As a result <strong>of</strong><br />

memberships rising above this figure for several months, existing members may have left due to the<br />

gym being too busy.<br />

Four (4) staff from the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bayswater</strong> have taken advantage <strong>of</strong> the 50% staff discount on<br />

memberships. Current active staff membership is 51.<br />

114 new memberships were contracted and 262 members renewed, with 43 new members<br />

participating in a health assessment.<br />

4. PRIVILEGE CARD<br />

Residents <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> are eligible to purchase a Privilege Card for $10 which entitles the holder to a<br />

15% discount on memberships and pool entry within the Centre. The discount card was introduced<br />

in 1999 and was made available to residents within the <strong>City</strong> over the age <strong>of</strong> 13 years. The current<br />

system does not have an expiry date on the privilege card however members are required to<br />

resubmit their information regarding their residency on renewal <strong>of</strong> their membership.<br />

• During the month <strong>of</strong> December 2010, 102 residents purchased a privilege card.<br />

• There are currently 17,827 registered Privilege Card holders.<br />

<strong>of</strong>fer was a 2 for 1 <strong>of</strong>fer that upgraded a gym only or Group Fitness only membership to include the<br />

pool at no additional cost.<br />

December is a quiet month for advertising in the Aquatic department with few events run due to<br />

Christmas.

Attendances throughout January are very similar to those in January last year, with attendances for<br />

the year to date being slightly higher. It is interesting to note that although memberships are<br />

slightly lower than the same time last year; attendances for the year to date in the Health Club are<br />

higher than this time last year. This may indicate that memberships through the peak may have<br />

been slightly inflated due to a particular special <strong>of</strong>fered.<br />

Memberships have increased by 100 this month with the continuing promotion proving successful<br />

and an influx <strong>of</strong> New Year members.<br />

Seven (7) staff from the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bayswater</strong> have taken advantage <strong>of</strong> the 50% staff discount on<br />

memberships. Current active staff membership is 52.<br />

139 new memberships were contracted and 342 members renewed, with 52 new members<br />

participating in a health assessment.<br />

4. PRIVILEGE CARD<br />

Residents <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> are eligible to purchase a Privilege Card for $10 which entitles the holder to a<br />

15% discount on memberships and pool entry within the Centre. The discount card was introduced<br />

in 1999 and was made available to residents within the <strong>City</strong> over the age <strong>of</strong> 13 years. The current<br />

system does not have an expiry date on the privilege card however members are required to<br />

resubmit their information regarding their residency on renewal <strong>of</strong> their membership.<br />

• During the month <strong>of</strong> January 2011, 131 residents purchased a privilege card.<br />

• There are currently 17,955 registered Privilege Card holders.<br />

The Royal Life Saving Society training room had its <strong>of</strong>ficial opening during the month <strong>of</strong> January.<br />

The event was attended by the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Bayswater</strong> Mayor, other dignitaries, the media and roughly<br />

50 other guests.<br />

7. PROMOTIONS<br />

The Health club successfully ran a monthly special for new members, with 139 new members<br />

making use <strong>of</strong> the promotion.<br />

The TV program “Just Add Water” ran a special on <strong>Bayswater</strong> Waves during a lunch break to the<br />

cricket. This generated many booking enquiries and casual users for the centre.<br />

The January movie night ran and had moderate attendances compared to other nights, this event<br />

highlights the centre to the general public and improves general attendances into the future.<br />

January also held the annual January Family Fun Day. Two <strong>of</strong> these events are held annually with<br />

approximately 1,000 people attending each. This event highlights our services through <strong>Bayswater</strong><br />

Waves and lifts future attendances for programs such as birthday parties.

8. a) AUTOMOTIC POOL CLEANERS<br />

Cleaning <strong>of</strong> the pools at <strong>Bayswater</strong> Waves has reduced heavily in the last two years through<br />

equipment disrepair, to a point that cleaning <strong>of</strong> the pools is at a sub standard level compared to<br />

other similar aquatic facilities.<br />

As a minimum, <strong>Bayswater</strong> Waves requires three (3) overnight pool cleaners to effectively clean the<br />

pools on a daily basis. These cleaners typically last four (4) years and over the last two years two<br />

<strong>of</strong> the cleaners have gone out <strong>of</strong> operation without being replaced.<br />

It is recommended that existing capital funds be reallocated to the purchase <strong>of</strong> two new overnight<br />

pool cleaners as they are essential to the effective operation <strong>of</strong> the centre.<br />

9. HEALTH, SAFETY AND SECURITY<br />

The chlorine compound alarm has undergone testing on four occasions with no faults during the<br />

month under review.<br />

Forty five (45) minor first aid incidents with assistance from lifeguards on all occasions. There<br />

were two (2) incidents that were referred to Emergency Services.<br />

10. STAFF<br />

Two full-time Lifeguard vacancies.<br />

One full-time Customer Service Officer vacancy.

to see if there are other options for next season.<br />
