this research can then be used to further develop the<br />
industry guidance on fuel system design, materials,<br />
<strong>and</strong> the development of test procedures for aircraft fuel<br />
systems. Therefore:<br />
<strong>Safety</strong> Recommendation 2009-032<br />
It is recommended that the Federal Aviation<br />
Administration <strong>and</strong> the European Aviation <strong>Safety</strong><br />
Agency jointly conduct research into ice accumulation<br />
<strong>and</strong> subsequent release mechanisms within aircraft <strong>and</strong><br />
engine fuel systems.<br />
Further <strong>AAIB</strong> investigation<br />
The investigation continues, including examination of<br />
the crashworthiness aspects of the accident, <strong>and</strong> further<br />
analysis is being carried out on fuel <strong>and</strong> engine data<br />
from other Boeing 777 aircraft. A final ‘Inspector’s<br />
investigation’ report, ordered by the Chief Inspector<br />
of Air Accidents <strong>and</strong> covering all safety aspects of the<br />
accident, will be published in due course.<br />
