A total of 13<br />
court reporters<br />
are responsible<br />
for producing<br />
accurate<br />
transcripts of the<br />
proceedings for<br />
appellate<br />
purposes, thirdparty<br />
litigation,<br />
re-openings,<br />
fraud<br />
investigations<br />
and general<br />
requests by other<br />
parties of<br />
interest.<br />

The Court <strong>Report</strong>ing Division is<br />
responsible for making a verbatim<br />
record of all Workers’ <strong>Compensation</strong><br />
Commission hearings held in<br />
Baltimore City and at the various<br />
regional sites in <strong>Maryland</strong>. The<br />
Division oversees the safekeeping<br />
and preparation of records, in<br />
conformance with the laws of<br />
<strong>Maryland</strong>, for a period of 15 years<br />
from the date of the hearing.<br />
The reporter identifies all parties of record who appear before the Commission, marks all exhibits entered at<br />
Commission hearings, prepares accurate transcripts in accordance with all statutory time requirements and<br />
forwards copies to the Circuit Court and to all parties involved in an appeal. Commission hearings are quasijudicial<br />
proceedings, which involve extensive legal and medical terminology.<br />

the Division received<br />
2,243 appeal notices,<br />
for which the division<br />
provided transcripts<br />
to the Circuit Courts<br />
and all parties of<br />
record. In addition,<br />
the Division prepared<br />
861 transcripts for<br />
non-appeal related<br />
requests. The past<br />
three years of<br />
reporting are<br />
illustrated in this<br />
chart.<br />
