<strong>FEI</strong> COMMITTEES<br />
EXECUTIVE BOARD<br />
The <strong>FEI</strong> Executive Board met seven times in 2005 : 21 - 22<br />
January 2005 in Beijing (CHN), 5, 8 and 10 April in London<br />
(GBR), 1 June in Lausanne (SUI), 25 July in Rimini (ITA), 13<br />
and 15 September in Lausanne (SUI), 15 November in Madrid<br />
(ESP) and 5 December in Bahrain (BRN).<br />
Main items / activities included:<br />
- decision to retain Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) as 2nd Vice<br />
President for another year<br />
- welcome of new member Simon Brooks-Ward (GBR)<br />
- monitoring the progress of the <strong>FEI</strong> Strategic Planning<br />
Committee<br />
- structural changes within the <strong>FEI</strong> Secretariat<br />
- appointment of the <strong>FEI</strong> Sports Director, Michael Stone, as<br />
Chairman of the <strong>FEI</strong> Super League Committee and member<br />
of the <strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping Working Group<br />
- approval of members to the new <strong>FEI</strong> Super League<br />
Committee<br />
- approval of proposed modifications/amendments to<br />
various rules<br />
- monitoring the progress of the <strong>FEI</strong> Task Force on Doping<br />
and Medication Policy<br />
- allocation of various <strong>FEI</strong> Championships and Finals<br />
- acceptance of proposed competition schedule and equestrian<br />
venue for the 2008 Olympic Games<br />

FINANCE COMMITTEE<br />
The <strong>FEI</strong> Finance Committee met on 8 March and 8 September<br />
2005 in Lausanne (SUI).<br />
Main items / activities included:<br />
- review and approval of the 2004 accounts audited by<br />
PricewaterhouseCoopers for presentation to the <strong>FEI</strong> Bureau<br />
and General Assembly<br />
- review of the 2005 financial outlook and revision of 2005<br />
operating budget, capital expenditure budget, balance<br />
sheet and cash flow<br />
- review of 2006 operating budget and IT development<br />
- investment portfolio review<br />
- discussion of financial issues related to the proposed new<br />
structure of the <strong>FEI</strong> and the proposed transformation of the<br />
Finance Committee into an Audit Committee.<br />
STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE<br />
During 2005, on-going efforts to further develop the overall<br />
<strong>FEI</strong> Strategic Plan were made. Additional meetings included<br />
discussions pertaining to the restructuring of the <strong>FEI</strong>. These<br />
took place during the Extraordinary Bureau Meeting held on<br />
14 September in Lausanne (SUI) and the Bureau Meeting held<br />
in Bahrain (BRN) on 7 December 2005.<br />
Main items / activities included:<br />
- presentation of 2006 - 2010 Strategic Plan to General<br />
Assembly<br />
- ratification by the General Assembly of Simon Brooks-Ward<br />
(GBR) as Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee<br />
- further work on restructuring of the <strong>FEI</strong> in the context of<br />
the Strategic Plan<br />
- recommendations for addressing conflict of interests.<br />

JUMPING COMMITTEE<br />
The <strong>FEI</strong> Jumping Committee held the first of its two annual<br />
meetings following the 2005 <strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping Final in<br />
Las Vegas, NV (USA) on 25 April, and the second took place in<br />
Rimini (ITA) on 25 July 2005 following the 2005 <strong>FEI</strong> European<br />
Jumping Championship.<br />
Main items / activities included:<br />
- approval of timing equipment and decision to make <strong>FEI</strong>approved<br />
timing equipment obligatory for all organisers as<br />
of 2007<br />
- review of the Jumping Qualification Procedure for the 2008<br />
Olympic Games and presentation to the <strong>FEI</strong> Bureau for approval<br />
- review of cross-over points for <strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping<br />
- approval of changes to <strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping Rules<br />
- decision pertaining to the number of teams in Nations Cup<br />
competitions – same rules apply worldwide<br />
- revision of <strong>FEI</strong> Rules for Jumping Events<br />
- changes to the CSI Invitation System<br />
- recommendations to the <strong>FEI</strong> Bureau pertaining to the dimensions<br />
of obstacles for international competitions with<br />
the participation of both Young Riders and Juniors<br />
- approval and addition of instructions to the <strong>FEI</strong> Manual for<br />
Stewarding<br />
- review of the report by the Independent Committee on the<br />
Footing at the 2004 Olympic Games and recommendations<br />
to the <strong>FEI</strong> Bureau.<br />
<strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping Working Group<br />
On 23 April, the <strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping Working Group held<br />
its annual meeting during the 2005 <strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping<br />
Final in Las Vegas, NV (USA).<br />
Main items / activities included:<br />
- researching ways of improving the performance of riders<br />
from weaker Leagues<br />
- consideration and evaluation of the newly introduced Arab<br />
League<br />
- evaluation of the past <strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping season<br />
- strengthening of the Western European League<br />
- approval of the new World Cup calendar<br />
- appointment of officials for the 2006 World Cup Final<br />
- modifications to the World Cup rules<br />
<strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping Final<br />
The <strong>FEI</strong> World Cup Jumping Final, started in 1979, is an annual<br />
showdown among the world’s best jumping horses and riders.<br />
Approximately 45 riders qualify from 13 leagues around the<br />
world.<br />
The <strong>FEI</strong> Budweiser World Cup Jumping Final took place in<br />
Las Vegas, NV (USA) on 25 April 2005. Germany’s Meredith<br />
Michaels-Beerbaum on Shutterfly, claimed the 27th <strong>FEI</strong> World<br />
Cup Jumping title. In the end, it was a clear-cut victory but<br />
the 31-year-old rider was obliged to compete under great<br />
pressure. She is the first woman to claim the trophy since<br />
Katharine Burdsall steered The Natural to success in 1987,<br />
and the fourth woman ever to take the title. Britain’s Michael<br />
Whitaker and Portofino picked up just a single time fault<br />
finishing in second place. Marcus Ehning (GER) and Gitania<br />
tied for third place with Lars Nieberg (GER) and Lucie.<br />
<strong>FEI</strong> Super League Committee<br />
The <strong>FEI</strong> Super League Committee held its annual meeting in<br />
Barcelona (ESP) on 17 September 2005.<br />
Main items / activities included:<br />
- approval of 2006 calendar<br />
- production of a five-year CSIO calendar<br />
- proposal of <strong>FEI</strong> financial support for events in the 2006 <strong>FEI</strong><br />
Nations Cup series<br />
- entry fees : introduction of a ceiling considered unnecessary<br />
- recommendation to use the formula of one round with one<br />
jump-off for <strong>FEI</strong> Super League Grand Prix events as of 2006<br />
- review of the <strong>FEI</strong> World Jumping Riders’ Rankings point<br />
system<br />
- decision to request authorisation:<br />
- to approve the CSIO calendar two years in advance<br />
- to increase the number of riders qualifying through the<br />
first round of 2006 <strong>FEI</strong> Super League competitions for<br />
the Grand Prix<br />
- to limit the number of efforts in the Grand Prix w<strong>here</strong> a<br />
two-round formula is used and to advise course designers<br />
to limit course size if teams participating are not top level<br />
teams<br />
- to alter <strong>FEI</strong> Nations Cup series’ point system to ensure<br />
that a greater number of teams obtain points<br />
- to permit CSIO events below 3* level to be hosted in a<br />
foreign country.<br />
2005 Samsung Super League<br />
Just three years after its inauguration, the Samsung Super<br />
League Series has proven to be a great success, reviving the<br />
true sense of “Team Spirit”. Eight teams, eight competitions<br />
and just over four months of Jumping – the formula is just<br />
right. The US team demonstrated that sense of “team” from<br />
the start and took home the 2005 Samsung Super League<br />
title with victories at La Baule (FRA) and Aachen (GER) and a<br />
total of 55 points. Germany were second (46 points) followed<br />
by the British in third position. The final results of the 2005<br />
leaderboard are: 1, USA; 2, GER; 3, GBR; 4, SUI; 5, NED; 6, FRA;<br />
7, IRL; 8, BEL (relegated).<br />
2005 Samsung Nations Cup<br />
The 2005 season of the Samsung Nations Cup Series included<br />
19 events and was won by Sweden (40 points) followed by<br />
Italy (28) and Austria (25). Twenty-five nations participated<br />
in the Series and 17 obtained points. Sweden is promoted to<br />
the Samsung Super League for the 2006 season, replacing<br />
Belgium.<br />
