E&TC 1997
1975-2012
Dear Alumni/Alumnae:
You are probably aware of untimely passing away of one of our alumni, Sougata Mukherjee
(E&TC'97) who was working with TCS in Mumbai. He died suddenly of stroke in his sleep on
12 th July morning at a young age of 37. We are all shocked by his premature death. It is even
harder on his nearest ones who have to go on with their lives in his absence. It is difficult for us
to understand the anguish, his wife and beloved six-year old son are going through.
A perfectionist to his core, Sougata was not only known for his academic brilliance amongst
BESU’s teaching fraternity, but also for his progressive outlook and involvement in students’
welfare, sports activities ( he was a TT Champion) and numerous cultural events within the
university. As the treasurer of REBECA 95, a landmark in the history of this annual Alumni
Meet, Sougata played a leading role in setting up the organization and executing the event.
This accomplishment catapulted REBECA to a new height of success and recognition. We, all,
remember him to be a down to earth, fun loving, and extremely amicable human being, looked
upon by his friends and colleagues as a true friend and a mentor.
He joined Tata Consultancy Services after graduation and within a brief period, became an
integral part in one of the leading accounts of this global organization. He demonstrated his
loyalty and dedication to the organization by continuing with the same account he joined as a
trainee, till the very end, a rarity in today’s professional world. His immediate professional
colleagues attest to his commitment, sincerity, innovation and astute management capabilities.
A condolence meeting organized by his well-wishers, held in the Institute Hall (BESUS) on 28 th
July 2012, was attended by his batch mates, seniors & juniors amongst whom he was quite
popular and Prof. Ajoy Roy (VC), Prof. Aditya Bandyopadhyay, Dr. Biman Bandyopadhyay (
Registrar ), Col. A.K.Ghosh (PICSA) and faculty members of the Dept. of E&TC.
In order to help his family in this difficult time and do something in his memory @BESU campus,
