What is it?
This is a program at the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault (SECASA)
that gives extra help to adults who have been sexually assaulted and who have
an intellectual disability or Acquired Brain Injury, or use aids to communicate.
What sort of extra help is available?
The program can help people with things people might need when they have
appointments with the police, or if they go to court. For example, a person may
need an Independent Third Person, a Communication Support Worker or an
Attendant Carer to be with them. The program can pay for this.
The program can also help people ask for money from a special court called the
Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) for things they might need to
recover and feel better. A lawyer at Springvale Monash Legal Service (SMLS) is
working with SECASA Counsellors to help people get this financial assistance.
Who can come to SECASA?
Anyone who has been sexually assaulted and lives in the South East of
Melbourne can come to SECASA for information, support and counselling.
People can come if they were assaulted recently, or if it happened a long time
ago.
