The organisation and management
of mechanical locking systems
If you talk about systems in a mechanical locking
cylinder, you are first referring to the number
of pin tumblers and other security codings. The
profile of the system can be identified on the
key’s long side. However, irrespective of the
system and profile used, the IKON mechanical
locking cylinder systems always form a secure
basis for high quality locking systems. They are
available in four different versions and security
classes; as System SK6 with vector profiles in
security class 1 and 2, with multi-profiles and
with a locking wave profile, which also features a
so-called undercut. .
A mechanical locking system is managed either
hierarchically or centrally, depending on which
access rules are to apply. In order to satisfy all
conceivable requirements, different hierarchical
system and central locking system functions can
also be combined in a single system.
However, comprehensive key control can only
be guaranteed in a system if, in addition to
providing the necessary technical conditions,
the operator ensures stringent key and locking
system management. The IKONIZER® II software
makes this possible. It runs on all PCs using
current Windows versions and in all common
networks.
The security card is your verification
A security card is supplied with every IKON locking
system. It is used for verification purposes
when re-ordering keys and locking cylinders
from the manufacturer or requesting locking
system data and lock plans. It must be shown to
the specialist retailer when re-ordering components
from the factory. The security card and the
related activities are therefore part of the range
of services provided by the specialist retailer.
The retailer will also take care of long-term maintenance
of your locking system if required. If you
wish to extend the system, the security card is
again a vital component.

The key profile in security class 1 features a very
special layout which hinders manual unauthorised
entry techniques considerably. Compared
with standard key profiles, the vector profile in
security class 1 also stands out due to its optimum
protection against lock picking, scanning
and decoding. The vector profile in security class
2 features an additional coding on the key, which
is read by extra blocking elements in the locking
cylinder. This type of control on the side of
the key profile ensures there are more options
regarding combining and managing systems and
also provides even greater protection against
decoding and lock picking.

The multi-profile ensures even greater protection
than the vector profile. This profile features
additional lunated notches along one or both
sides of the key length. The coding is read by
special springless locking slider components in
the locking cylinder. If a key with missing notches
is used, the locking action will be blocked. Using
a multi-profile in a locking system ensures there
are more options regarding combining and
managing systems while providing even greater
protection against decoding and lock picking.

incorrect coding is used, the locking action will
be blocked. An undercut is also milled into the
key profile. This increases protection against
decoding and lock picking as well as providing

systems. This system integrates high-performance
chip technology into mechanical locking

The technology is used when retrofitting and upgrading

in the fire service safe, for instance. With an IP67 protection rating,

The mechatronic key
A display on the key head indicates the battery
status and a friendly smiley emoticon appears
when users have locking authorisation. Other
features include integrated chip for electronic
coding, standard battery, mechanical coding,
reversible key version, optionally programmable,
quartz-controlled time function.
The mechatronic locking cylinder
The double profile cylinder comes in a single-sided
or two-sided mechatronic version. It does not
require wiring or mains supply as it is powered
by the battery in the key. The security features
include spring loaded, mechanical tumblers,
blocking rail and electronics module.
∙∙The Signal Red programming key is used to convey event logs and changes
to authorisations between the software and locking cylinder. It also serves
to issue authorisations when using the software. ∙

∙∙The handy programming device is used to transmit data between the CLIQ
Manager software and the programming key as well as to programme
the user keys E2 time and E3 guest. The programming device is equipped
with a serial COM port and a USB port, so that it can be connected to a PC.∙

∙ ∙ The user friendly CLIQ Manager software can be run on any modern PC,
features a menu structure based on MS Outlook and provides a clearly
laid-out display of lists. It is used to programme access authorisations and
define time zones.

our brief glossary on locking cylinders

∙∙Scanning protection
Scanning protection refers to the degree of difficulty in
surreptitiously ascertaining the tumbler locking codes in
a locking cylinder, using suitable tools but without using
undue force, in order to cut a duplicate key in accordance
with the dimensions which have been revealed.
∙∙Drilling protection
IKON profile cylinders are fitted with
drilling protection as standard. The
hard metal pins used in the cylinder
core and housing, for instance, prevent
the locking cylinder from being
drilled open. Increased drilling protection in security
category 1 and 2 can be supplied to meet special locking
system security requirements.
∙∙Lock picking protection
Lock picking protection refers to the degree of difficulty
in unlocking the locking components in a locking cylinder
with suitable tools without using the original key
and without using undue force. IKON locking cylinders
feature a whole range of precautionary measures to
prevent attempted burglaries with picking tools −
paracentric key profiles, blocking rails, blocking pins,
finger pins and locking wave mechanisms. IKON locking
cylinders offer optimum protection against lock picking.
∙∙Installation lengths
The basic length of a double profile cylinder is generally
61 mm (L = 30/30). For system R10 (L = 31/31). Besides
standard lengths which can be extended in 5 mm increments
up to a total length of 110 mm, special lengths
are also available in 10 mm increments up to a total
length of 240 mm. System R10 is available up to a total
length of 110 mm.

All locking cylinders
featured in this brochure comply
with DIN EN 1303/ DIN 18252. These standards, which
define the requirements for high-grade locking cylinders,
cover measures such as key control as well as protection
against lock picking, decoding, scanning, drilling
and core extraction.

VERSO CLIQ locking cylinders and keys are
suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres
in areas with II 2G classification .
∙∙Emergency equipment
Each authorised user key
within an IKON locking system
can open or lock double
profile cylinders fitted
with emergency equipment, even when there is another
key inserted in a locked position on the other side.
∙∙General master key
The general master key provides access to all doors in a
locking system.
∙∙Group key
Key from a locking system which locks the locking cylinders
of several rooms or an organisational area.

The large number of possible locking configurations
and low manufacturing tolerances ensure the risk of an

IKON locking systems can be perfectly matched to the
particular style of your doors.Besides the standard
nickel-plated matt finish, other surface finishes are
available for profile cylinders, furniture cylinders and
outdoor cylinders.

∙∙Key head
Head/grip area of the key. The typical IKON ∙
curved strap can be found on every IKON key head.
∙∙Security card
A security card is supplied with every
IKON locking system. This security card
is used for verification purposes when
re-ordering keys and locking cylinders
from the manufacturer. It must be shown to the specialist
retailer when re-ordering components from the factory.
∙∙Special identification marking
If required, locking cylinders and keys can be supplied
with a special identification marking of your choice,
consisting of up to eight digits.
∙∙Locking elements
The rotating core of the locking cylinder is locked
from beneath and from the side by locking elements,
e.g. spring loaded pins, in such a way that the locking/
unlocking action is only permitted if the correct key is
used. The higher the number of pins and the more complex
the arrangement of them is, the higher the security
against unauthorised opening and against unauthorised
key copying will be.Therefore it is virtually impossible to
open an IKON locking cylinder using lock picking tools or
lock bumping.
∙∙Dust and rain protection cap
The optional dust and rain protection
cap protects VERSO CLIQ locking cylinders
against all weather conditions,
e.g. on radio masts.∙
∙∙VdS class
Certification mark issued by VdS-
Schadenverhütung, the German insurance
industry’s certification centre.
IKON locking cylinders can be optionally
supplied with VdS certification.
