New Event, 4 Man Shamble, Is a Big Hit
The first 4 Man Pick Your Own Partner Shamble Tournament played at Timberlin on Sunday August
7th was an apparent success as many players mentioned to me how much they enjoyed the format. While the
event was new, the results were not, as one of our rising young stars posted another victory. The top prize was
won by a foursome led by Brent Paladino, who teamed with Mike and Dave Sirois and Bruce DiFronzo, who
posted a 12 under par score of 132 to nip the strong team of Rich Nappi , Jim Abbott, Doug Kirk and Bill Stout
by one stroke. The net scoring was astonishing with two teams firing 26 under-par totals of 118. In the matching
of cards it was Ed Rogers and his son along with Dave Baribault and Mike Carrera who won over Bob
Costanzo, Rich D’Onofrio, Mark Letizio and Stan Solek, Jr. Another great turnout of 136 players participated in
the event.
This past week a very special event took place at the Waterbury Country Club. A young man who
learned to play here at Timberlin, and who played in today’s event, came within a gnat’s eyelash of winning the
most prestigious tournament held for people from Connecticut, The Connecticut Open. Brent Paladino’s
spectacular play, a score of 73-67-66 - 206, and the equally classy way he handled the disappointment of losing
on the third playoff hole is something all of us who work and play at Timberlin are very proud of. In two weeks
Brent will play in United States Amateur Championship at the historic Merion Golf Club in Philadelphia then
he will be off to a college career at William & Mary. Brent has always been, and will always be, a great
representative of Timberlin.
This has been a truly great year for Timberlin. The club has been honored with Connecticut Section
Public Golf Course of the Year Service Award, the Paladino brothers have played some of the best golf played
in the state and we are soon going to see the best get better when Jon Zuk is given more tools to continue to
keep Timberlin at the front of municipal and privately owned public golf courses in Connecticut.
Thank you,
