CAM
information
Fringe projection sensor
3D
CAM is an optical 3D sensor for fast and highprecision
object shape scanning, whatever the nature
and size of the object.
Various modifications enable a wide range of applications.
Fast evaluation and 3D display of data with easy-to-use
software open up numerous opportunities for the user.
3D
CAM is used for:

Measuring human faces (“3D portraits”)
Non-contacting measurement of works of art
Measuring in orthopedics and other medical fields
Reverse engineering
Industrial shape and positioning inspection
Reverse Engineering
Medical Technology
Preservation of
Historical Buildings
Mold Making
Measurement Principle
Creating a 3D portrait
3D
CAM is an optical sensor based on coded illumination.
Measurement is based on a patented process that involves
illuminating the surface of the measured object with a fringe
pattern. A camera observes the illuminated object from the
side. The surface shape of the object is calculated according
to the resulting displacement of the fringes.
The system's high flexibility and extremely low scanning
time mean that objects can be fully measured in
just a few minutes.
Sensor Models
3D
Depending on the customer's specific requirements, CAM
is supplied with the appropriate measurement field size from
100 to 500 mm.
The product is also available in the following models:
3D
CAM
One projector, one camera
3D
CAM D
One projector with two cameras for simultaneous
scanning of two views (e.g. for 3D portraits)
3D
CAM DF
Device with two switchable measurement field sizes
Mesh of a human head,
reconstructed from
45 measurements
(from the real-life subject)
with a measurement
accuracy of 130 µm.
All devices are factory calibrated. Calibration equipment is
available as an optional extra.
Measurement Examples
3D
The following objects were digitized using CAM, then the
3D
SLIM reverse engineering software was used to process
and display the data as triangle meshes.
Mesh of a bronze
sculpture by
Franz Marc
(Moritzburg National
Gallery, Halle / Saxony-Anhalt
Regional Studies Museum), reconstructed from
32 measurements with a measurement accuracy of 120 µm.
Mesh of the Trumpeting Angel
in Bamberg cathedral, reconstructed
from 200 measurements with a
measurement accuracy of 140 µm.
Mesh of a
CAD object (size
approx. 20 cm), reconstructed
from 38 measurements with an
accuracy varying from 10 to 100 µm.
3D-SHAPE GmbH also provides 3D measurement
3D
services using the CAM measuring system.
