Studying modern monolithic materials and composite structures, such as Epoxy and Urethane
microballoons dispersed (with nano wall cells) concerned with the experimental, numerical, and
analytical investigation for both qausi-static and dynamic deformations of failure. On the
experimental side a novel optical diagnostic technique called Coherent Gradient Sensor (CGS), to
be used in conjunction with ultra-high-speed photography (~ 2 million frames/sec) for the study of
transient deformation and failure events in real time on elastic and fracture properties. In addition,
using an independent method namely, 3-D numerical analysis using ANSYS, to verify the experiment
results including micro-mechanical modeling, the project was supported by the USA Army
Research Office.
Studying the energy dissipation under fatigue loading conditions, through special polymeric
composites, such as PTFE unfilled (commercially known as Teflon) and filled with chopped
