Great Lever

Housing Tenure
Housing tenure refers to the financial arrangements under which someone has the right to
live in a house, for instance if they own their own home or rent from a landlord. The tenure
of a household is derived from the response to the question asking whether the household
owns or rents its accommodation and, if rented, from the response to the question asking
who is the landlord.

• Great Lever contains a significantly smaller proportion of owner-occupied households,
and significantly larger proportions of all other tenures.
• About half households in Great Lever are owner-occupiers, (approximately 54%), lower
than the Bolton and England & Wales figure of 70%. Around 22% rent their properties
from the Council, compared to 17% for Bolton as a whole, and 11% of households rent
from a Housing Association or Registered Social Landlord, double the figure in Bolton
and England & Wales at around 5%.
• There are also significantly higher numbers of households in Great Lever renting from a
private landlord, and renting from ‘other’.
