Power supplies of voice alarming systems
ZDSO400
Voice alarming systems require a guaranteed source of voltage to ensure supply of power over a specified duration needed by
efficient evacuation from endangered zones.
MERAWEX has developed and manufactures power supplies of series ZDSO400 for voice alarming systems Praesideo and Plena by
Bosch, and Sinaps by Ultrak and Honeywell. A standard 19” rack cabinet of height up to 50U forms the main frame of the system to
host not only elements of the power supply, but also elements of the voice alarming system (amplifiers, controllers, etc.). The power
system takes care about supplying the mains (primary) power as well as the backup power of 24V or 48V from own battery banks.
The battery banks are protected against too deep discharge. It is possible to apply a single rack or a set of a few racks – the system
allows for operation in a distributed mode. Reliability of the system can be improved by adding a supplementary power supply unit
which can be used also to increase charging current. The power supplies ZDSO400 comply with EU directives: CPD (constructive
products) 89/106/EEC, LVD (low voltage devices) 206/95/EC, EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) 204/108/EC.
FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS OF THE POWER SUPPLY
ZDSO400
• no limitation as for the number of rack cabinets in the system
• distribution of the mains and backup power to the modules of
the voice alarming systems
• alarming in case of detected malfunctions of the system
• possibility to connect with a fire alarm control panel
• precise regulation of floating mode voltage – temperature
compensation
• fast charging of the battery with the charging current limitation
• monitoring of low and high battery voltage
• monitoring of continuity of battery circuits and protection of
batteries against too deep discharge
• surge protection of the mains line
• visual, sound and remote indication of alarms
• history of events recorded in non volatile memory
• wheels as optional outfit of the cabinet
indication of high resistance of the battery bank
and circuits connected to it
Having conducted supplementary tests against EN 54-4/A2, conformity and approval was
recertified for the power supplies.
certificate of conformity: certificate of approval: date:
ZDSO400D-AK4 nr 2144/2006 0463/2008 19.10.2009
ZDSO400E-AK3 nr 2157/2006 0343/2008 24.09.2009
ZDSO400D-AK3 nr 1438/CPD/0129 0456/2008 24.09.2009
According to the obligatory since September 1, 2009 amendment A2 to EN 54-4 the power supplies have
been extended by a measuring set consisting of the battery resistance meter RMB-1 and DC meters
CP-100 in each battery string. The requirement to monitor high resistance of the battery bank is included
in the standard EN 54-16 for voice alarming systems too, because this standard refers to EN 54-4.
Adjustment of the power supplies to the amendment A2 is the necessary and sufficient condition that
complete voice alarming systems continue to comply with the technical approvals used in the process
of their certification. The monitoring of resistance of the battery circuit (backup source of power)
increases reliability of the power system, thus also reliability of the whole voice alarming system.
