2. Once you decide on a goal, put it in sentence form in the space below.
Sign it to indicate your commitment to it. Example: “I will keep a prayer
journal and use it each day for a month but no fewer than three times
per week. I will write my prayers as informal conversations with God and
record ways that God is talking to me.”
3. Set a time and date when you will check in with your accountability
partner between sessions. Your partner will encourage your progress and
help you celebrate your success, and vice versa.
BUILD STRENGTH
Your efforts to move toward wellness during and beyond this course will
be nurtured by the things you do between sessions to follow up. Each
week you’ll find suggestions here to help you build healthy habits and
relationships that encourage and support you on your way to life balance.
• Use the “Time Out to Talk” discussion questions on page 10 to reflect
further upon your spiritual well-being. Start a personal journal and
record your thoughts and ideas there.
• Pay attention to the ways you already express your spiritual well-being.
Make notes in a journal.
• Put your SMART goal for spiritual well-being into practice. If you did
not build a SMART goal for enhancing your spiritual well-being during
the first session—do it now, before the next session.
• If your goal for spiritual well-being is to practice daily devotions, check
out the online free devotional, ELCA Daily Bible Readings at www2.
elca.org/scriptLib/CO/bible/tbrBibleView.asp.
• Invite a trusted friend to assist you and support your efforts to build
healthier habits concerning your spiritual well-being. Ask your friend
to review the well-being assessment you completed and give you
their feedback. Do they agree with your responses? Why or why not?
• Move! Take time for a daily breathing and stretching exercise, walk
instead of driving or riding on public transportation, as you are able.
Try walking meditation.
