Life After Loss Exhibition Monday 29 July - Sunday 25 August Time: 10am - 4pm, Monday - Saturday Venue: Carrickfergus Museum (Community Archive) Lughnasa Fair Either Saturday 27 - 28 July OR Saturday 3 - 4 August Time: TBC Venue: Carrickfergus Castle A traditional medieval fair celebrating the colourful history of Carrickfergus Castle! Centred around traditional local crafts, food, workshops and historical based demonstrations. Kit Car Open Day Saturday 3 August Time: 12pm - 4pm Venue: Castle Green, Carrickfergus This popular annual exhibition organised by the Ulster Kit Car Club returns for 2013 featuring a display of approximately 30 to 40 cars built to an exacting high standard from kits. As a result every car is unique and different. Sponsored by Carrickfergus Borough Council. Autotest Wednesday 1 August Time: 7pm - 9pm Venue: Harbour Car Park, Carrickfergus Organised by the Police Motor Club of Northern Ireland and sponsored by Carrickfergus Borough Council. Team Madigan Grand Prix Saturday 3 August Time: 11am approx. Sign on at Eden Playing Fields at 10am This annual race in Carrickfergus is a must see for cycling enthusiasts! Whitehead Festival Saturday 3 - Saturday 17 August Time: Various Venue: Whitehead Town Centre Family fun comes to Whitehead with this annual event organised by Whitehead Community Association. World Police & Fire Games Cycling Events Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 August Carrickfergus Borough has been selected as an official venue for this year’s World Police and Fire Games to host the Road Cycling and Time Trial events. From 1 - 10 August 2013 competitors and their accompanying supporters from an estimated 70 countries will come to Northern Ireland to participate in one of the biggest multi-sport events in the world. Carrickfergus Borough will host the Road Cycling on Saturday 3 August and the Time Trial on Sunday 4 August. Saturday 3 August will see the Cycling Road Race take place, covering laps of the tough 18-mile Kilroot- Glyn-Gleno-Beltoy circuit, and on Sunday the town’s Castle will play host to the start of the Time Trial event which will see riders start at one minute intervals and cover approximately 12 miles on the A2 towards Larne and back. Almost 200 cyclists have signed up already, with more expected come August. Playday Wednesday 7 August Time: 11am - 3pm Venue: Marine Gardens, Carrickfergus Playday is the national day for play and takes place on Wednesday 7th August from 11am to 3pm in Marine Gardens. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the new play area at Marine Gardens with a bouncy castle, face painting, balloon modeling and games to enjoy at this fun free event. To celebrate Playday, children, young people and communities get out and play at hundreds of community events across the UK. As well as a celebration, Playday is an opportunity to campaign on issues affecting children’s play. This year, we’re calling on everyone to celebrate Playday 2013 and show why play is fundamental to children’s enjoyment of childhood, and vital to their health, well-being and development. In light of government cuts to play services across the country, it is more crucial than ever that we unite to stand up for play. Monthly Tea Dance Friday 9 August Time: 2pm - 4pm Venue: Jubilee Hall, Carrickfergus Town Hall Admission: FREE with complimentary refreshments provided Don’t miss the popular monthly tea dance with Mervyn Dickson as MC.
