Re-Enactment of the 

Historical Landing 

of William 


Time: 12.30pm (landing at 1pm approx) 

Venue: Quay Lane and Castle Green, 

Carrickfergus. This will take 

place and can be viewed from 

Quay Lane and Castle Green 

(weather permitting). 

Watch out for North Irish Dragoon’s 

horsemen in period costume who will also 

be entertaining the crowds. Immediately 

following the landing, the main parade 

will take place, weaving its way through 

Carrickfergus Town Centre along the route 

traditionally followed by William. The parade 

will return again at approximately 4pm. 

‘Try a Boat’ Event

Pageant Sunday 

Sunday 9 June 



Come and enjoy the well-established Pageant 

Sunday entertainment on Castle Green with 

live music from the Willie Drennan Ulster Scots 

Band from 2pm-4pm and many other attractions 

including falconry displays and ‘have a go 

archery’ courtesy of the Traditional Archery 

Society of Ireland, demonstrating at first hand 

some of the historical weaponry of the period.

Soldiers, Settlers & 

Sermons Free Bus Tour 


Venue: Bus tour departs Carrickfergus 

Castle at 1pm 

The pioneering residents of Carrickfergus and 

district in 1613. Join a living history bus tour 

around some of East-Antrim’s most important 

historic sites. Meet the soldiers, settlers and 

preachers who made the area their home 

during the Plantation era 400 years ago. Visit 

sites including Dalway’s Bawn, residence of Sir 

John Dalway, once Constable of Carrickfergus 

Castle, and Templecorran Church in Ballycarry 

where Edward Brice established the first 

Presbyterian congregation in Ulster in 1613.

Carrickfergus Sailing 

Club’s Annual Regatta 


Time: All day 

Venue: Various 

Carrickfergus Sailing Club’s Annual Regatta 

attracts visiting yachts from all the sailing 

clubs in Belfast Lough, Donaghadee Sound 

and Larne Lough. A total of 80 to 100 boats 

can be seen, making a colourful sight from 

the shore. The Regatta is the highlight of the 

club’s racing year and is celebrated with music 

and dancing in the evening after racing.

Scotch Quarter Festival

Forces Day 2013

Northern Ireland’s Armed Forces Day returns 

bigger and better than ever for 2013 featuring 

interactive and static military displays, naval 

vessels, helicopters, exhibitions, tours, 

climbing walls, archery, live music, parade, 

family entertainment, a parachute display and 

a display by the fantastic Red Arrows, their 

first visit to Northern Ireland this year! This is a 

great family day out not to be missed!

BATTLE OF THE SOMME 

REMEMBRANCE SERVICE 

& PARADE 

Sunday 30 June 

Time: 10.30am (Service at 11am) 

Venue: Knockagh Monument 

Carrickfergus plays host to the Lord 

Lieutenant, councils, British Legions and 

Service organisations from County Antrim 

in memory of those who lost their lives at 

The Somme.

The Siege of 

Carrickfergus & 

Re-enactment 


Time: TBC 


A re-enactment of the siege of Carrickfergus 

Castle and the landing of King William 

including re-enactment groups from around 

the country all dressed in period costume 

followed by a Pageantry parade to meet King 

William upon his landing. This event was very 

popular last year bringing history to life. 

Historical Re-enactment 

& Town Wall Tours 

Sunday 14 July 


Venue: Various 

A day reflecting on the historical points of 

interest in the Borough relating to the events 

surrounding the siege of the Castle, the 

landing place of King William and the Town 

Walls. Re-enactors in period costume will be 

taking part in the events, with walking tours 

of all the points of interest.

An annual event since 1971, the Carrickfergus 

Golf Club Open Week is an eight day open 

golf tournament which attracts golfers from 

all over Ireland as well as further afield. The 

main event on the Club’s golfing calendar, 

there are different competitions each day to 

cater for both male, female and junior golfers 

of all handicaps. Organised by Carrickfergus 

Golf Club and sponsored by Carrickfergus

production of one of Shakepeare’s finest 

plays, ‘Twelfth Night’ on Saturday 27 July. 

Beautiful costumes, an original musical score

this one of the most memorable nights of 

the year! Don’t forget to bring a picnic and 

dress appropriately for the outdoor weather 

conditions! Admission is free but entry is 

strictly on a first come, first-served basis, 

so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Jane Austen Exhibition

Immerse yourself in this fantastic exhibition 

which celebrates the 100th year since the first 

edition of Pride and Prejudice was published. 

Ten of the original costumes from Jane Austen 

TV and film will be on display along with 

information panels including extract from 

the books and information on the costumes 

displayed around the gallery.

World Police & Fire 

Games Cycling Events 

Saturday 3 & 


Carrickfergus Borough has been selected as 

an official venue for this year’s World Police 

and Fire Games to host the Road Cycling 

and Time Trial events. From 1 - 10 August 

2013 competitors and their accompanying 

supporters from an estimated 70 countries will 

come to Northern Ireland to participate in one 

of the biggest multi-sport events in the world. 

Carrickfergus Borough will host the Road 

Cycling on Saturday 3 August and the Time 

Trial on Sunday 4 August. Saturday 3 August 

will see the Cycling Road Race take place, 

covering laps of the tough 18-mile Kilroot- 

Glyn-Gleno-Beltoy circuit, and on Sunday the 

town’s Castle will play host to the start of the 

Time Trial event which will see riders start at 

one minute intervals and cover approximately 

12 miles on the A2 towards Larne and back. 

Almost 200 cyclists have signed up already, 

with more expected come August. 

Playday 

Wednesday 7

Venue: Marine Gardens, Carrickfergus 

Playday is the national day for play and takes 

place on Wednesday 7th August from 11am 

to 3pm in Marine Gardens. 

This is a great opportunity to enjoy the new 

play area at Marine Gardens with a bouncy 

castle, face painting, balloon modeling and 

games to enjoy at this fun free event. 

To celebrate Playday, children, young people 

and communities get out and play at 

hundreds of community events across the 

UK. As well as a celebration, Playday is an 

opportunity to campaign on issues affecting 

children’s play. 

This year, we’re calling on everyone to 

celebrate Playday 2013 and show why play 

is fundamental to children’s enjoyment of 

childhood, and vital to their health, well-being 

and development. In light of government cuts 

to play services across the country, it is more 

crucial than ever that we unite to stand up 

for play.
