River Rehabilitation
The majority of river rehabilitation works will have been achieved by December 2008, however some
components will still require completion. There is an important role for annual maintenance to ensure the
river continues to make rapid improvements in condition. Further work will include:
• Funding of riparian works with the landholders to improve the river health, especially through replanting
native trees and shrubs.
• Maintenance of blackberry and willow control to ensure native vegetation can recolonise the river edge.
• Remote area blackberry control in the Byadbo wilderness area, to clean up the remaining 40 km of
untreated river.
• Control of willow and blackberry in remote area tributaries which still pose a threat to the Snowy River.
