SPANISH LANGUAGE AP: SUMMER HOMEWORK - Srta. Clower
Hola y bienvenidos a una clase inolvidable. Estoy tan emocionada que voy a ser vuestra
profesora de AP Lengua Español. Es trabajo duro pero también es divertido en mi clase.
You need to buy the following book by the beginning of school. You can find this on
AMAZON.COM or order it from your local bookstore. We start with this book in the Fall, so I
suggest that you order it early.
Triángulo: A Propósito, Manual para estudiante, Cuarta edición, (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
by Barbara Gatski (Author), John McMullan (Author) Paperback: 260 pages Publisher: Wayside
Publishing; 4 edition (June 15, 2006) Language: Spanish ISBN-10: 1877653896 ISBN-13: 978-
1877653896
There are four components to the Spanish Language AP Exam. The student will be asked to
listen, speak, read and write Spanish. The summer homework includes practice in listening,
reading and writing.
To complete this homework, students must:
keep a record of listening activities and reading notes in a 3-ring binder notebook which
they title La lengua española avanzada. One section will be for Listenings and the other
section for Writing/Reading.
Read and write 8 articles that interest you found in authentic news sources,
for example: bbc.com (en espanol) or elpais.com or abc.es. Read and write 1 article per
week you are out of school—that will be 8—obviamente en Español. Please only use a
dictionary—not an online translator. I will know if an online translator is used. You need
to type each article in Spanish and put in your notebook. Please make sure that you label
everything as carefully as possible so there will be no confusion for me.
Listening to Spanish:
Students must listen to Spanish for 3 hours a week during the months of June and July
(8 weeks), for a total of about 24 hours of listening. Ideally, listen to 1/2 hour a day of Spanish. For
variety in your programs, follow the Listening Schedule below, and keep a record of the time and
name of the programs you listened to in your La lengua española avanzada notebook.
I would definitely recommend to you www.notesinspanish.com or itunes. There are various levels
of difficulty to choose from. I would recommend the intermediate or the advanced levels. The
podcasts are free and you can download them to your ipod. If you choose to buy the transcripts
there is a fee. You may also want to participate in their ongoing blogs and forums. They are very
interesting.
Listening Schedule: Students may switch the order to accommodate their vacation schedules.
Examples:
1 st week of June: 3 hours radio music
2 nd week of June: 3 hours podcasts (Notesinspanish.com)
3 rd week of June: 1 authentic movie (not dubbed)
1 st week in July: 3 hours T.V. news programs
2 nd week in July: 3 hours sports programs
3 rd week in July: 3 hours 'telenovela' programs
4 th week in July: 3 hours radio music
The notebook with all written work is due during the first week of school. It would be in your best interest to
not wait until the last minute to do this. You could possibly start out with 5 100s for the class if you do this
neatly and organized. First impressions are a big part of life—and I hope to make some great first
impressions from you with this summer work.
Do not wait until the last minute to do this. I will be taking up your notebook the Wednesday of the first
week of classes. Extra credit for those that turn it in on the first day of class. The more organized and
detailed your notebook is—the better the grade!!! Mucha suerte!!! I am proud to be a Gladiator!!!!
