What is the fundamental purpose of the job?<br />

A <strong>Contract</strong> Project Coordinator is required for two, full-time eight week periods. Candidates<br />

can apply for both or just one of the contract periods:<br />

• WotOpera Wollongong from 9 May – 1 July 2011;<br />

• WotOpera Dandenong from 1 August – 23 September 2011.<br />

For both eight week periods this will be a full time contract position with a prime focus on<br />

ensuring the successful delivery of the WotOpera projects. The role will report directly to the<br />

Company’s Education Operations Manager. Some travel will be required.<br />

What are the main responsibilities and outcomes the job is to achieve?<br />

1. Project coordination and administration for WotOpera<br />

WotOpera is a participatory arts education project in which Opera Australia works with<br />

groups of 20 young people over four weeks to create and perform their own original operas.<br />

In 2010 projects are planned for:<br />

o Wollongong 23 May – 1 July (performance 22 June);<br />

o Dandenong 15 August – 23 September (performance 13 September).<br />

It is anticipated that the Project Coordinator will be the main operational contact for these<br />

WotOpera projects and manage the performance days in the theatres:<br />

• Provide administration support for education consultants and schools;<br />

• Make necessary project arrangements including school liaison, transport, catering,<br />

printing etc and interaction with relevant departments at Opera Australia;<br />

• Manage the running of the combined performance days, and responsibility for all<br />

operational coordination with the theatres;<br />

• Compile and communicate documents required to facilitate projects. For example,<br />

administration timelines, student notes, promotional material, theatre programs, media<br />

briefings etc;<br />

• Track project budgets and coordinate payment of invoices through Opera Australia’s<br />

Finance Department.


What are the key relationships the job has to manage?<br />

It is expected that this position will develop effective working relations with WotOpera<br />

stakeholders including teachers, schools, education consultants, performing venues, media,<br />

sponsor representatives and other Opera Australia staff.<br />

What qualifications are needed for the job?<br />

Essential qualifications:<br />

Proven project management and time<br />

management skills<br />

Experience with stage management and<br />

technical production in the performing arts<br />

Ability to work independently and fulfil<br />

designated responsibilities<br />

Strong communication, both verbal and written<br />

Ability to meet deadlines and to follow projects<br />

through to completion<br />

Ability to service relationships with internal and<br />

external stakeholders<br />

Adaptable team player<br />

Proficiency in Word and Excel<br />

Attention to detail<br />

Desirable qualifications:<br />

Understanding of how a performing arts<br />

company operates<br />

Awareness of the education sector<br />

What is the scope of the job?<br />

The position’s main focus is the successful delivery of the Wollongong and Dandenong 2011<br />

WotOpera projects which is one of the Company’s key education initiatives, receiving<br />

considerable private and government funding. It is a high profile project both within the<br />

Company and externally, attracting interest from media, government representatives, and the<br />

broader community.<br />
