popular auger which is a general<br />
purpose design to handle most soil<br />
conditions, even very sandy soils. In<br />
stiff dry clay penetration can be<br />
improved by adding a little water to<br />
the hole. It is a 2 slot, 2 cutter, with a<br />
spiral tip design.<br />

decomposed rock. They drill faster<br />
and are stronger than the soil augers<br />

sampling. They come in 50mm and<br />
62mm diameters and either full<br />
length spiral or a 300mm spiral piece<br />
mounted on a tubular steel shank.<br />

beach sands but now are used<br />
extensively for drilling and sampling<br />
in very sandy friable soils. A 75mm<br />
diameter sand auger will penetrate<br />
30 cm in about 4 turns, which fills the<br />
auger.<br />
Several sample kits are listed and<br />
these can be varied to suit your<br />
individual requirements.<br />
