WE DON’T JUST MAKE WORK GLOVESWE ENGINEER PROTECTIVE ENVIRONMENTS FOR YOUR HANDS to work inDesigned to Maximize Protection and ReduceCut, Puncture, and Impact InjuriesHexArmor® designers have worked hand-in-hand for morethan two years with safety experts from Halliburton®,Noble Drilling®, ExxonMobil®, and other leaders in the oiland gas industry to engineer a glove with the capabilityto deliver the perfect balance of exceptional protection, dexterity and grip. While competitive “advanced technology” work glovesprovided some protection against impact injuries, researchhighlighted that the majority of injuries in many sectors ofthe oil and gas industry were cut and puncture, and thatexisting glove designs offered little protection against theseoften painful and debilitating injuries.HexArmor® applied current industry data to developand design specific technical solutions for the industry’smajor safety challenges in hand protection. While creatingsolutions to protect against punctures, cuts and impactinjuries, maintaining the essential grip and feel requiredto work quickly and efficiently was of high importancein the development and engineering of our lineup ofoil and gas gloves.“If a glove can’t protect you, or allow you to performthe way you need to work, it’s just not getting thejob done right.”Roughneck- Joey D., AlaskaMany competitive gloves provide some protectionagainst impact injuries, but almost no protectionagainst cuts and punctures. In fact, most cutprotection offered by competing oil and gas safetygloves is not much better than 2-ply cotton gloves.Research indicated that while impact injuriesaccounted for many of the hand injuries in the field, cut and puncture injuries accounted for over 50% ofinjuries in some companies. The conclusion was thatthe existing hand protection was not up to the job ofprotecting oil and gas workers. Why settle for a lessthan 50% solution when it comes to safety?Whether you are wrenching on a valve head, handling lumber, pulling cable, hauling tools,or moving piping, your hands can be exposedto a wide variety of cut, puncture and abrasionhazards. While many PPE products in themarket try to address other prominent handinjuries, such as impacts and contusions, these products fall short in the area of cut andpuncture protection.

HEXARMOR OIL & Gas SAFETY GLOVES ARE ENGINEERED TO PROVIDEMAXIMUM PROTECTION ALONG WITH MAXIMUM DEXTERITY AND GRIPProtection in the Tough and HazardousWorld of Oil and Gas ProductionHexArmor® gloves are constructed with superiorand proven materials and technology. Thefoundation of HexArmor® oil and gas gloves isour proprietary SuperFabric®. The innovativeconfiguration of SuperFabric® provides resistanceto lacerations, punctures, and slashes like no othermaterial in the industry today.cut resistance comparisonWhile common cut-resistant products, with blendsof yarns such as Kevlar ® , Dyneema ® , or Spectra ® ,give some minimal protection from straight-edgedcut hazards, they don’t offer sufficient protectionfrom variable hazards such as metal burrs, wires, orslivers commonly found in oil and gas productionenvironments. HexArmor ® gloves exceed theindustry’s highest testing standards – ISEA and CELevel 5 – giving you the protection you need most, where you need it. PREVENTING lacerations and puncture WOUNDSMany lacerations startout as a puncture. Asharp edge, corner, burr, wire “wicker,”or other protrudinghazards can penetratethe glove and scrapeor cut skin. Withsynthetic leather orcotton gloves, the hazard will poke through thesurface of the glove and tear laterally to createa laceration. While a glove may say it has ‘cutresistance,’it often lacks the puncture protectionto stop lacerations.Standard Synthetic Leather GlovesCut/Puncture HazardOuter ShellCut InjurySkin SurfaceHexArmor Synthetic Leather Gloveswith SuperFabric ® Guard PlatesCut/Puncture HazardOuter ShellTMPlatesSkin SurfaceHexArmor Synthetic Leather Gloveswith SuperFabric ® Guard PlatesCut/Gashing HazardOuter ShellProven protection against punctures – HexArmor ®oil and gas safety gloves with SuperFabric ® brandmaterials are tested in both the lab and the field tovalidate the highest degree of puncture-resistanceand performance.TMPlatesSkin Surface

THE NEXT GENERATION OF impact protection:ir-x ® impact exoskeleton The most advanced HexArmor ® impact resistancecomes with all the dexterity, all the comfort, andmore protection than offered by any other impactprotectiveglove on the market. Our proprietary IR-X ®technology shields our gloves with a full back-of-handexoskeleton, so everyjoint and knuckle is protected from debilitating blows. In addition to being 42% taller than competitive impactguards, IR-X ® smash guards are purpose-built todeflect the force of sudden impacts away from theimpact point, rather than transferring force directly tothe hand. This unique characteristic is what sets IR-X ® safetylevels higher than the competition, and its flexibilityis what makes the IR-X ® Impact Exoskeleton morecomfortable and more dexterous than any otherimpact-resistant technology available.HexArmor IR-X ® Impact GuardsHexArmor’s new impact shielding materialsprotect against serious and painful impactinjuries.Standard Competitive Impact ProtectionTraditionalimpactguardsGlove shellhandboneHexArmor ® IR-X ® impact Guards42% TALLER GUARDSimpactguardsGlove shellhandboneHexArmor IR-X ® Impact Guards cover the entireback of the hand, including the knuckles and fingerswhere the majority of impacts occur.HexArmor IR-X ® Impact Guards are 42% tallerthan competitive impact guards, creating an evengreater barrier between your hand and impactinjuries.

The results are given in aresilience value which is “determined as a ratio of rebound height to dropheight of a metal plunger of prescribed mass and shape which is allowedto fall on a rubber specimen.” The ASTM method measures the amount ofenergy that is transferred through impact.

Whentools and pipes are covered with fluids, itcan cause surfaces to become slick. Thiscan lead to hand fatigue, strains and sprainsfrom the increased effort required to maintaingrip. Eventually, poor grip can lead to lowerproductivity and increased potential for injuryand accidents.Because different applications have differentgrip challenges, HexArmor ® developed acomplete line of gloves to meet the technicalchallenges for maintaining grip in oil and gasapplications.Surface OBM GritDrilling MudPVC Grip DotsSynthetic LeatherSuperFabric ® GuardplatesARCTIC GATOR ® 4031TP-X ® palm surface does notabsorb fluids, allowing grip tobe maintained in the presenceof lubricating materials.Iron/Steel/ToolSurface OBM GritDrilling MudTP-X ® PalmSuperFabric ® Guardplates

Glove manufacturerstypically use the ASTM F-1790 standard to obtain cut-resistance ratings ranging from Levels 0-5.This test involves the interpretation of data obtained from putting varying pressure (weights) on astandardized razor-type blade and recording the distance the blade travels (at a constant speed)before cutting through. Many gloves on the market will rate around a Level 1-2 on the ASTM F-1790 test (less than 1000grams), which won’t protect workers from sharp edges, blades, or wood splinters. The limitationsof the synthetic leather, and in some cases Kevlar ® , that makes up the palm of most gloves is thatthey offer little cut or puncture resistance. They may receive a ‘cut-rating’ on the industrystandard, but will fail in the field when exposed to normal work.“It’s great to finally havegloves that feel customengineered for this job. They give me the feel I need toperform, but man, the protection! Those steel burrs that curl out andgrab the palm or a side-seam, and openthem up, it just doesn’t happen withthese gloves. The steel just won’t cutthrough it. Amazing stuff.”- Adam D., Texas Frac CrewWorkerAdditionally, some manufacturers will claim Cut Level 5 protection on aproduct, but will not specify the test used to obtain this data. The CECoup test varies dramatically from the ASTM F-1790, and theresult is a difference in true cut protection. A glove that meetsthe CE standards for ISO Cut Level 5 may not do so in theEN388 Coup test. Be sure to research the tests usedto validate manufacturers’ claims.

Stainless Steel Shim Lacerations PreventedMaintenance workers in refineries regularly use stainless steel slotted shims to level andmaintain pumps, motors, and machines. While steel shims provide optimal efficiency inmaintaining equipment, they also create a dangerous hazard for hands at work. Sincepump and machine maintenance is an ongoing process, workers are constantly handlingshims, which increases the potential for injury.Maintenance Worker has MultipleInjuries Working with ShimsWhile a slotted shim is a common, helpful tool formaintenance workers in oil refineries and on oil rigs, the shim’s handy tab and corners can become sharphazards that can cause serious injury. The oftenpaper thin stainless steel shims can be razor sharp, and are easily capable of slicing through ordinaryleather maintenance gloves, Kevlar, or cotton workSeries ® 4026 mechanics’ gloves. While performingroutine maintenance using a metal shim, the workerreceived an almost identical type of cut from theshim. This time, however, hishand was not cut and he did nothave to leave work that day. While the sharp edge of the shimslashed the exterior syntheticleather covering the finger andpalm of the glove, it had no effecton the SuperFabric ® underneath.HexArmor ® products with HexArmor ®SuperFabric ® prevents injury withexceed ISEA andSuperFabric ®CE Level 5 cut protection, whichplayed a huge role in saving this worker’s finger.gloves.Metal ShimHexArmor ® had interviewed a refinery maintenanceworker who received several recordable lacerationsto his thumb and index finger, as well as smashinjuries to his knuckles while working with steelshims. One recent injury required stitches, and dueto the location of the wound, the worker was offthe job for two weeks.
