Speaking Volumes: The Language of
Bonnie de Arteaga considers herself a jack-ofall-trades.
Having studied the art of printmaking
and experienced the corporate world of graphic
design, her talents have captured the attention of
those in the Fox Cities.
From her print studio at Hilbert’s Main Street
Art Works (which she co-founded), de Arteaga
designs ink drawings, which she then
manipulates on the computer and transfers to
birch plywood. Once cut from the wood, the
blocks are inked traditionally and printed on an
etching press.
The final process requires turning the retired
wood plates into cubes and sculptural forms.
Inspired by the science of the sky, she tries to
“capture human drama from Greek mythology
that is embedded in the naming and
configuration of the constellations.”
Starting on March 18, de Arteaga’s woodcut
prints and sculptural forms will be on exhibit at
The Gallery at American National Bank Fox
Cities in Appleton. A small collection of her
etchings and monoprints will also be on display.
Stop in during the bank’s business hours to view
the display, which runs through May 14. Call
