A new journey to begin for the Class of 2012
For the Class of 2012 their final assignment
had been completed and last examinations
behind them. They enjoyed the final days at
SCOTS PGC College reflecting on their time
at school together.
Last Friday morning an inspiring Chapel
ceremony was held before the sixty-six Year
12 students released balloons to
signify being released from the College.
The College community gathered at the
John Muir Sports Complex where the
presentation of Academic Prizes, General
and Special Prizes were awarded.
SCOTS PGC College School Captain,
Elliese Ackermann was announced as
the 2012 WR Black Dux and spoke of her
time at the College that commenced in
Year one. “Throughout my twelve years
at SCOTS, since my very first day in year
one, till now on my last day, the school
had nurtured and developed me into the
person I am today, while also providing me
with this strong foundation through gentle
support and encouragement to reflect these
characteristics, the characteristics which
define a Scots Collegian.”
“I will never forget the times when the
strong school spirit of the Scots Collegians
emerged; the times when we would so
passionately scream ourselves hoarse with
the College song and war cries. Whether
it was during assembly, when we had won
a game of basketball, or simply when we
entered the QCS exam this year. This
amazing school spirit, and sense of pride in
our College, forged from the strong history
of Scots, always seems to shine through in
every situation,” Elliese said.
“However, it is not just the school spirit that
makes this College great. It is not the large
buildings and ovals, and it is not the diverse
range of co-curricular activities available. It
is the amazing, dedicated teachers and staff
who truly care about the students, that make
the SCOTS PGC College such an incredible
school,” she said.
College Principal, Mr Michael Harding
congratulates W R Black Prize (Dux) for
2012, Elliese Ackermann.
College Captain, Caillum Coleman spoke
of his time at the College, commencing
his journey at SCOTS in 2008 when he
enrolled as a boarder. “As I look back now
at the many memories I have in boarding
I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am truly
grateful that my parents made the sacrifice
to send me to boarding school, as I’m sure
many other fellow boarders would be,” he
said.
“The family atmosphere that is experienced
here is not only seen in boarding, but in
all aspects of the College community. It is
seen strongly when it comes time for one
of our swimming, cross country, or athletics
carnivals. Although there are intense
rivalries between the clans, everyone
encourages each other to have a go and
try their best. This school spirit, along with
being such a tight knit country school, is
what sets The SCOTS PGC College apart
from any other,” Caillum said.
College Principal, Mr Michael Harding
said while the current Year 12 cohort is
some weeks away from final OP scores,
indications are that this will be a successful cohort.
Certainly their application to study has been outstanding
and their work towards the all important QCS tests, first
class.”
“We are highly optimistic about their outcomes.
Importantly, our focus has not been simply on the
university entrance or OP students, rather on assisting
those with aspiration in vocational education and training
as well.”
The audience enjoyed performances from the College
Pipes and Drums performed along with the Junior,
Middle, Senior and Combined Choirs accompanied by
Mrs Gabi Laws to sing Somebody to Love, One Love and
Together We are On.
When the ceremony was over students from all year
