Gene HULSMAN loves farming – the sun, the soil, helping things grow. He farms so he
can share. As a resident of the Good Shepherd Home, Gene is still farming. His prized
tomatoes are enjoyed all summer by Resthaven residents and caregivers alike… and
Gene is already planning next year’s crop.

Jason COOK likes to keep busy. An Elder in the Vern & Lois Boersma Cottage, Jason
asked to have his bed replaced by a workbench so he had a place to build and paint
his birdhouses. He sleeps very well at night in his comfortable recliner, knowing his bird
houses have put many smiles on faces of families throughout West Michigan.

Mariln BAREMAN & Mar SWEARNGIN’S favorite things at the Resthaven
Care Center are Bingo games, color tour excursions, and coffee with friends… but don’t
forget the cookies! These women shine with joy in this safe, loving environment – full of
fun and activity – and the compassionate care they’re entitled to. Cookies included.

Lexie MCGREGOR retired from her position as Activity Coordinator for Resthaven to
volunteer for afternoons of Bingo fun with residents like Dixie Victor. It isn’t just the
Bingo… it’s the prizes, companionship, and love of the volunteers that keeps residents
coming back for more.

Ar & Joce WYMA have traveled all 50 states, but chose Warm Friend and
downtown Holland as home. Glowing with love for each other, their neighbors, and the
Christ-centered principles Resthaven is founded upon, Art and Joyce find comfort and
security knowing they have Resthaven standing beside them.

Dan MUTSCHLER, or “Dan the Magic Man” can’t wait to share his latest balloon
creation with residents of Maple Woods. Dan volunteers each week, entertaining and
loving the residents of Resthaven with his gifts of balloon animals and magic tricks.

Adeline DECKER loves her extended family at Maple Woods. She enjoys the food,
church fellowship, crafts, and “wonderful people all around me”. Judy Johnson,
Resthaven At Home nurse loves looking out for those that can’t look out for themselves.
It’s a match made in heaven.

Lisa HOEVE and her children Joshua, Samantha, Abigail, and baby Jack, a home
school family, visit the Boersma Cottage each week blessing residents like Blenda Johns
with laughter and smiles. In return, Lisa and her family are equally blessed.

Rev. Lei BOELKINS VAN KEMPEN, Resthaven Chaplain, lives God’s love in her
service to seniors and their families. When the call-bell sounds, she runs from her office
to help a resident in need. She doesn’t wait for someone else. She answers the call.
Like all at Resthaven, Leigh serves in the name of Christ, every day, honoring God by
honoring the oldest of His children.
