The Program
Al-Hamdulillah
We will celebrate our 17 th retreat at Dar
al Islam, in the midst of northern New
Mexico’s pink cliffs, endless blue skies,
spectacular scenery and penetrating
silence. A spiritual place, the beauty of
this area has attracted people of many
religions. This will be a time for prayer,
study, meditation, and fellowship.
This year we will have a wonderful
opportunity to expand our knowledge
of Islam with our sisters and discover
how to be women of influence with a
positive impact in our world.
In addition to yet another stimulating
lecture series, there will be a souk, an art
project, gourmet meals by a professional
chef, hikes, quiet times. And should the
weather allow, prayers under the Milky
Way.
Who Should Attend
Women, ages 12 and above, interested
in spiritual renewal and enrichment
from an Islamic perspective. (All
religious backgrounds welcome.)
Our Speaker: Dr. Yamina Mermer ,taught
Arabic and Islamic Studies at various institutions
of higher education including Indiana University,
Swarthmore College and Carthage College.
Dr. Mermer’s areas of expertise include Qur'anic
Studies, Islamic theology, religion and science.
She is fluent in Arabic, French, English and
Turkish and has translated and published in
several languages.
Dr.Mermer holds a Ph.D in Quantum Physics
from Durham University in England and has
published extensively on Islamic philosophy of
science. She also pursued doctoral studies in
Islamic Studies at Indiana University,
Bloomington, IN.
Dr. Mermer is active in community work, leading
study circles and counseling. She has been active
in interfaith dialogue and is a member of the
Scriptural Reasoning Group based at the Faculty
of Divinity, University of Cambridge, UK.

This non-refundable fee includes
shared, dormitory-style accommodations
(with bunk beds) and
gourmet meals. Partial
scholarships may be available.
Be advised, the accommodations
are beautiful and rustic. Bring your
open mind and spirit of adventure.
