Why should I do an exchange program at the MSE?
• The Technische Universität München (TUM) is one
of the best universities for engineering studies in
Germany
• The Munich School of Engineering (MSE) offers high
quality courses
• The study office helps exchange students to plan
their courses at the TUM
• The MSE offers a Mentoring Program for exchange
students
Bachelor in Engineering Science
Munich School of Engineering (MSE)
Studying in Munich
With about 1.3 million inhabitants, Munich is the third
largest city in Germany. Close to the Alps, it is Bavaria’s
world famous capital. According to the 2011 Mercer
survey of the cities with the highest quality of living,
Munich is one of the top 5 cities worldwide. With excellent
reputations, Munich’s large universities (TUM and LMU)
are well known in Germany and the rest of the world.
Technische Universität München
Located in the south of Germany, the Technische Universität
München is one of the leading universities in Germany.
According to the Shanghai Ranking of 2011 and the World
University Ranking by the British magazine “Times Higher
Education”, the TUM is Germany’s best university for engineering
studies. The combination of subjects at TUM is
unique in Europe. TUM educates approximately 31,000 students
in 156 study programs.
Living in Munich
Munich is a very popular place to live in Germany. That is
why the International Office at the TUM offers exchange
students affordable rooms in student residences in the
city. If exchange students ask early, the university helps
them to find a room.
B.Sc. in Engineering Science
In 2010 the Munich School of Engineering, a department
of the Technische Universität München with a highly interdisciplinary
impetus, launched a new Bachelor’s degree
program called “Engineering Science” for students who
are very talented at and interested in engineering and natural
scientific matters. This study course prepares students
for a variety of Master’s programs in the engineering
field. Studying Engineering Science at the MSE means
studying in a modern, well-equipped environment.
Regular Bachelor’s students who study Engineering Science
at the MSE have to achieve 210 credits in 6 semesters
of studies.
Courses at the TUM
The TUM offers plenty of courses in many engineering
fields. Exchange students can choose exactly the courses
they are interested in and which fit best into the study
program of their home university. Interested students can
contact the study office, where staff will help them find
the right courses and prepare the learning agreement for
their stay.
In most cases, the teaching language is German, but there
are classes offered in English as well.
Selection of courses taught in English:
- Engineering Mechanics I/II
- Chemistry I
- Thermodynamics
- Control Theory
- Material Science I / II
Learning the Language
Most of the classes for Bachelor students at the TUM
are held in German. This is a good opportunity to improve
German language skills. In order to help arriving students
with the language, the TUM offers intensive language
courses as well as courses during the semester.
Intensive language courses
Levels: A1 to B1
Amount: 60 teaching units
Cost: € 200
Courses in fall
These courses normally start at the beginning of October.
They last two weeks and run mornings and afternoons
during the first week and mornings only during
the second week.
Courses in spring
These courses normally start at the end of February.
They last five weeks and take place three times a week.
Courses during the semester
Mentoring Program
The Munich School of Engineering offers a Mentoring Program
to help exchange students to get along well at their
new university. German Engineering Science students
help the exchange students to have a good start in the
new environment.
