Introduction<br />
Developed by <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> Bankers Malaysia (IBBM) <strong>in</strong> consultation with<br />
senior audit practitioners, the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Internal</strong> Audit<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> F<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />
<strong>Institutions</strong> (CIAFIN) is an <strong>in</strong>troductory specialist pr<strong>of</strong>essional qualification<br />
that would equip <strong>in</strong>dividuals with the prerequisite knowledge and skills to<br />
function more effectively as an <strong>in</strong>ternal auditor <strong>in</strong> a f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong>in</strong>stitution.<br />
Objectives<br />
To enable <strong>in</strong>dividuals to ga<strong>in</strong> knowledge and understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> the:<br />
• Malaysian f<strong>in</strong>ancial system and its functions<br />
• legislation and guidel<strong>in</strong>es govern<strong>in</strong>g the bank<strong>in</strong>g and f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong>in</strong>stitutions<br />
• ethical and pr<strong>of</strong>essional standards <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternal audit<strong>in</strong>g<br />
• <strong>in</strong>ternal control framework<br />
• risk-based audit<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
• audit function<br />
Eligibility<br />
The CIAFIN qualification is open to all <strong>in</strong>dividual members <strong>of</strong> IBBM. There is<br />
no other entry requirement.<br />

Structure<br />
One 2 ½ hour exam<strong>in</strong>ation paper consist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> 100 multiple choice questions<br />
to assess competency <strong>in</strong> the three study areas.<br />
The pass mark is 75% and result will be expressed <strong>in</strong> grade bands.<br />
Preparation <strong>for</strong><br />
Exam<strong>in</strong>ations<br />
Candidates prepare <strong>for</strong> the exam<strong>in</strong>ations through selfstudy us<strong>in</strong>g the study<br />
materials provided by IBBM upon first registration <strong>of</strong> exam<strong>in</strong>ation.<br />
However, candidates are strongly encouraged to attend related audit<br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g programmes conducted either by IBBM or their respective f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />
<strong>in</strong>stitutions to enhance the knowledge acquired from their selfstudy ef<strong>for</strong>t.<br />

Exam<strong>in</strong>ations<br />
The exam<strong>in</strong>ation will be held once a year. The exam<strong>in</strong>ation schedule will be<br />
published <strong>in</strong> IBBM’s newsletter and website (www.ibbm.org.my).<br />

Schedule<br />
Candidates are required to submit their exam<strong>in</strong>ation entries accord<strong>in</strong>g to the<br />
schedule <strong>in</strong> IBBM’s website.<br />

Referral Candidate : RM150 per exam<strong>in</strong>ation<br />
Attendance and<br />
Result Notices<br />
Attendance Notices will be<br />
despatched to candidates two<br />

Exam<strong>in</strong>ation results will be issued<br />
post approximately 8 weeks<br />

Entries<br />
Changes<br />
Any changes <strong>in</strong> a candidate’s entry details <strong>for</strong> an exam<strong>in</strong>ation must be made<br />
with<strong>in</strong> 7 days after the enrolment clos<strong>in</strong>g date.<br />
Withdrawal<br />
Withdrawal from the exam<strong>in</strong>ation must be made <strong>in</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g and submitted to<br />
IBBM with<strong>in</strong> 7 days after the enrolment clos<strong>in</strong>g date.<br />
Deferment<br />
Deferment <strong>of</strong> exam<strong>in</strong>ation must be made <strong>in</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g and submitted to IBBM<br />
with<strong>in</strong> 7 days after the enrolment clos<strong>in</strong>g date.<br />
Transfer<br />
If a candidate is unable to attend the exam<strong>in</strong>ation because <strong>of</strong> illness, a written<br />
application must be submitted together with medical evidence no later than 2<br />
weeks after exam<strong>in</strong>ation.<br />
An application approved <strong>for</strong> transfer <strong>of</strong> exam<strong>in</strong>ation entries due to medical<br />
reason is subject to a fee <strong>of</strong> RM100.<br />
Candidates can request to either defer or transfer their exam<strong>in</strong>ation<br />
entry only once to the next immediate sitt<strong>in</strong>g.

Important Notes to Candidates<br />
• The decision <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Institute</strong>’s Education Committee on all exam<strong>in</strong>ation results is f<strong>in</strong>al. All appeals<br />
will NOT be considered and IBBM will not enter <strong>in</strong>to any correspondence regard<strong>in</strong>g review <strong>of</strong><br />
exam<strong>in</strong>ation results.<br />
• Any candidate found guilty <strong>of</strong> misconduct or contravention <strong>of</strong> exam<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>in</strong>structions will be<br />
liable to discipl<strong>in</strong>ary action and may be disqualified from future exam<strong>in</strong>ation sitt<strong>in</strong>gs and removed<br />
from IBBM’s membership register <strong>for</strong> life.<br />
The candidate’s employer will also be notified <strong>of</strong> his/her misconduct or contravention <strong>of</strong> the<br />
exam<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>in</strong>structions.<br />
• Candidates are advised to read IBBM’s newsletter and check IBBM’s website <strong>for</strong> updates on the<br />
exam<strong>in</strong>ation syllabus and study manual, changes to the exam<strong>in</strong>ation dates, deadl<strong>in</strong>es, rules, and<br />
procedures.<br />
Disclaimer<br />
• IBBM reserves the right to amend a member’s exam<strong>in</strong>ation status to take cognisance <strong>of</strong> any changes or<br />
revision <strong>in</strong> the exam<strong>in</strong>ation structure and syllabus.<br />
• In the event that IBBM is unable to hold any <strong>of</strong> its schedules exam<strong>in</strong>ation or that a candidate’s answer sheet is<br />
