America

War 1812
Written Description
• The War of 1812 was caused by the change of trade relation between Britain and France.
Another cause is the U.S was getting ireful of Britain always trying to control them. The war
began when the U.S attacked Canada trying to cut off Britain’s supply’s which went to
Tecumseh’s Indian Confederation. The attempt to enter Canada failed vastly because they
were pushed out quickly. General William Henry Harrison's forces did manage to kill
Tecumseh at the Battle of the Thames in 1813. After this event angered Britain enters U.S
and matches towards Washington D.C. The U.S army was badly defeated. The city of
Washington was evacuated and while being evacuated the British burned the White House
down. During this time it inspired Francis Scott key to write a poem about how proud he
was that even though all this chaos was happening the U.S flag was standing high and proud.
American Negotiators then met and signed the Treaty of Ghent which then ended the war,
they did not lose any land or gain any which made the U.S proud.

War of 1812
Historical Significance
The War of 1812 was, in a sense, the Second War for Independence, in that if
the U.S. lost to Britain, then Britain might very well take over the country and
colonize it again. But by defeating the strongest nation in the world for the
second time, the U.S. proved that it had a right to exist, a right to be its own
country, and a right to be a power in the international stage.

President Polk told America that there was more gold in California that they thought
and because of this many Americans started heading west. Where they got the name
Gold Fever. Around 1849, 80 000 people. They were named forty-niners. Forty
protection against cheap products in the U.S especially by their enemy the
British Empire. This idea was envisioned then went through after the War of
came from New York and Pennsylvania. Which John Randolph hated because
it went against the Constitution.

funding for canals and a high protective tariff.

Growth of the Railway
Written Description
The building of the Railway was one of the most important prodigies of the
Technological development in America. Because of this extraordinary prodigy
there were philosophical social, economic and industrial changes in America.
The railway was made by a man in Great Britain named George Stephenson.

Growth of the Railway
Historical Significance
Before the railroads, it didn't matter how many of a particular good you could produce. Your
market was mostly local and you couldn't really exceed the local demand. For instance, if you
made shoes for a living, there was no point in making five hundred pairs of shoes when the
local population was only two hundred. Who would buy the extras?
Railroads and, before them river traffic, made it possible to ship goods cheaply. A shoemaking
company in Ohio was able to sell in Chicago and New York and Charleston and New Orleans.
Cattle ranchers in Texas could actually get their cattle to market in the big cities back east. Coal
from Wyoming could be shipped to either coast and from there overseas.
Because the railroads moved the goods cheapest, the owners of railroads had American
industry by the throat. Congress knew this and granted favors to them which made them even
more powerful.

leaderless they were soon arrested and imprisoned.

Shay Rebellion
Historical Significance
The Article of Confederation was not doing well when it came to raising
money to pay back the debt from the war or even the surviving soldiers that
survived the war. Since each law had to be permitted by every state one state
rejecting made an immense discrepancy.

Cherokee, Creek, Seminole, and Choctaw nations among others in the United
from exposure, disease and starvation. All done by Andrew Jackson their
current President. He was also the first President to implement removal of the
Native Americans with the passage of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. In
1831 the Choctaw were the first to be removed, and they became the model for
all other removals. After the Choctaw, the Seminole were removed in 1832, the
Creek in 1834, then the Chickasaw in 1837, and finally the Cherokee in 1838.

Trail of Tears
and any culture that is different from theirs.

Whiskey Rebellion
Written Description
The Whiskey Rebellion was a group of Pennsylvania farmers marching on
Philadelphia (the U.S. capital at the time) to protest the excise tax placed on
whiskey by Alexander Hamilton. George Washington organized an army of
13,000 and marched to western Pennsylvania to end the rebellion. The farmers
disbanded and Washington, by his actions, indicated when a tax was imposed
through legislative action it had to be paid - it was the law. Washington showed
that the federal government meant business.

Whiskey Rebellion
Historical Significance
The Whiskey Rebellion was one of the first actions taken to get the United States out of the
debt shortly after the Revolution. It was set by Alexander Hamilton who convinced congress to
pass a tax on distilled beverages. His intention was to help build up the power of the new
federal government as well as bringing down the national debt. A lot of farmers detested this
tax, because the way it turned out was that it would affect the smaller whisker distributors than
the bigger ones. Thus, a sort of rebellion came out of it against the government.
The reason it demonstrated the strength of the new constitution because it was the first time
that the U.S had to use military force to express its authority over the citizens. I believe it was
also the first time that the president had actually commanded the military in the field as well. It
helped set a precedent that you could disagree with the government as long as it wasn't
harmful- it was dangerous, the government would meet its attacks.
