California Gold Rush<br />
Written Description<br />
In 1848 after California became part of the U.S John.A.Stutter hired John Marshall to<br />
build a saw mill. Who then hired the Indians to build a ditch. On January 24, 1848 they<br />
found tiny shiny rocks, Marshall took them too shutter who then tested them. They<br />
discovered that this was not just ordinary rocks they were gold. Marshall, Shutter and<br />
the Indians tried to keep it a secret from others but the word got out. Then many<br />
Californians started hiring Indians too dig up the gold and so did <strong>America</strong>ns. In 1848<br />
President Polk told <strong>America</strong> that there was more gold in California that they thought<br />
and because of this many <strong>America</strong>ns started heading west. Where they got the name<br />
Gold Fever. Around 1849, 80 000 people. They were named forty-niners. Forty<br />
Niners came from everywhere. Most arrived by land it was the cheapest and most<br />
affordable. People came from everywhere and came through dangerous routes just for<br />
gold.
