Our Operation Round-Up program is another way<br />

<strong>Jackson</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> <strong>your</strong> community. The voluntary<br />

program is funded by members like you who donate a<br />

few cents to the Operation Round-Up fund each month by<br />

round<strong>in</strong>g their electric bill up to an even dollar amount.<br />

Operation Round-Up is celebrat<strong>in</strong>g its 10th year of provid<strong>in</strong>g<br />

grants to local communities. Dur<strong>in</strong>g that time, more<br />

than $150,000 has been awarded to area nonprofit organizations.<br />

It’s a program that has provided fund<strong>in</strong>g to improve<br />

local parks, volunteer fire departments, school programs,<br />

and countless other community services.<br />

<strong>Jackson</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> is also work<strong>in</strong>g to br<strong>in</strong>g new jobs to<br />

our area through economic development programs and by<br />

work<strong>in</strong>g with local <strong>in</strong>dustries to not only provide them the<br />

<strong>power</strong> they need, but also the funds they need to expand.<br />

Your cooperative offers bus<strong>in</strong>ess development loans to area<br />

<strong>in</strong>dustries that help them grow and br<strong>in</strong>g new jobs to southeastern<br />

Kentucky.<br />

KEEPING EVERYONE SAFE<br />

Dur<strong>in</strong>g this past year <strong>Jackson</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> can also report that<br />

safety has cont<strong>in</strong>ued to be a constant focus.<br />

For employees as well as members, the key to stay<strong>in</strong>g<br />

safe from the dangers of electricity is constant vigilance,<br />

never lett<strong>in</strong>g <strong>your</strong> guard down.<br />

<strong>Jackson</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> also received accreditation this year<br />

from the National Rural Electric <strong>Cooperative</strong> Association for<br />

its safety program. The accreditation process is a rigorous<br />

exam<strong>in</strong>ation of the cooperative’s safety tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g, outreach,<br />

and practices.<br />

To keep that awareness level high among co-op members,<br />

every communications medium gets used, from<br />

notices, ads, and stories <strong>in</strong> Kentucky Liv<strong>in</strong>g magaz<strong>in</strong>e, to<br />

regular <strong>in</strong>-person safety demonstrations around the community,<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> schools.<br />

For the high-risk job that the utility l<strong>in</strong>emen work at<br />

every day, <strong>Jackson</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> has made safety a requirement.<br />

These dedicated workers are provided with state-of-the-art<br />

tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g techniques developed with resources and support<br />

from state and national organizations.<br />

Keep<strong>in</strong>g employees, and you, safe and healthy will cont<strong>in</strong>ue<br />

as one of the most important parts of the relationship<br />

<strong>Jackson</strong> County RECC<br />

opens a branch office<br />

<strong>in</strong> Laurel County.<br />

1989<br />

The new London<br />

District Office opens<br />

<strong>in</strong> London and<br />

replaces the branch<br />

office.<br />

1997<br />

<strong>Jackson</strong> County RECC<br />

changes its name to<br />

<strong>Jackson</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> opens<br />
