Anna Katherine<br />
“Katie” Keiper, RN<br />
1951–<strong>2011</strong><br />
Anna Katherine "Katie" Keiper, RN, PhC,<br />
60, died July 20, <strong>2011</strong> after a courageous<br />
battle with breast cancer. Katie was born<br />
April 28, 1951 in Santa Barbara. She is survived<br />
by her husband, Robert Wallace, his<br />
sons and daughters; father Bruce Keiper,<br />
his wife Jeanette and her son and daughters;<br />
brother Jay Keiper, his wife Monica<br />
and their daughter; and a loving extended<br />
family of cousins, nieces, grandchildren,<br />
and close friends. Katie was preceded in<br />
death by her mother, Lavonne Lby and<br />
brother Joel Keiper.<br />
Katie grew up in Santa Barbara and surrounding<br />
area including Cuyama Valley<br />
and Santa Maria. She graduated from<br />
Santa Barbara High School and Mesa College<br />
in San Diego. She received her nursing<br />
degree (BSN) from Southern Oregon<br />
<strong>State</strong> College and a Master degree (MHA)<br />
and PhC from the University of <strong>Washington</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> focus of her doctoral work at<br />
the UW was on evaluating responsible<br />
conduct of research. Katie worked for 26<br />
years at Harborview and the UW Medical<br />
Center.<br />
She loved quilting, scrapbooking, music,<br />
QVC, and all things Disney. She was a<br />
loving, giving and caring person with a<br />
zest for life. Her joy and optimism will<br />
be greatly missed by all who knew her.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong> Foundation (WSNF) annually awards a minimum of<br />
four $1,000 scholarships to qualified students preparing for a career as registered<br />
nurses in <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>State</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> primary goal of the Foundation is to advance the nursing profession and facilitate<br />
nursing’s contribution to the health of the community. Currently, nursing is experiencing<br />
a shortage that is predicted to continue for several years to come. Now, in<br />
these turbulent times of health care, nursing has an opportunity to gain much for the<br />
profession and for the health of the community. Our nursing student scholarships help<br />
to advance the profession by assisting bright students achieve their educational goals.<br />
Scholarships are be awarded on the basis of academic performance, nursing leadership,<br />
school and community involvement, professional activities, and commitment to the<br />
<strong>Washington</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>Nurses</strong> <strong>Association</strong> (WSNA).<br />
Eligibility<br />
Undergraduate student applicants must be enrolled in an approved program leading<br />
to an associate or baccalaureate nursing degree, and must have completed at least 12<br />
nursing credits. Graduate student applicants must be admitted to an approved graduate<br />
nursing program to be eligible to apply for a scholarship. Applicants must be either a<br />
resident of <strong>Washington</strong> <strong>State</strong> or enrolled in an approved RN program in <strong>Washington</strong><br />

Materials must be postmarked by February 11, <strong>2011</strong> and scholarship award announcements<br />
will be made by April 15, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
