Seniors Welcomed Into The Alumni Association

I am a 1980 graduate of Marian Catholic. For those of you
not so great in math, that means I started here as a freshman 35
years ago. Seniors, only four years ago you were graduating from
8th grade. Now in a few weeks, you’ll graduate from high school
and join the MCHS Alumni Association with over 15,000 other
“family” members.
It’s a wonderful family full of people from all backgrounds
and professions: priests, nuns, teachers, coaches, doctors, lawyers,
firemen, and carpenters. Sure, we’ve got a few crazy aunts and
uncles like any family, but I promised Mr. Heneghan I wouldn’t
mention any names.
Once you become an alum, stay in touch with your classmates,
starting right away. In today’s world of
SmartPhones and texting, of Facebook
and Twitter, it really should be easier
than ever. But get together in
person, too. Come back to Marian
to see a game, a concert, or a play.
Visit your teachers, or participate
in College Day. And absolutely
make sure that Sister Teresa
knows where you are so she can
plan her college visits for the next
few years.
Most importantly, remember you are part of “THE” Marian
family, and you are required to spend time with us. And since
you are part of the family, we expect you to always represent your
family well, and make us proud by serving others. Do it in a way
that makes outsiders say, “Those Marian kids are really something
special!” Remember, YOU ARE M-C.
So seniors, as a token of your membership in this extended
Marian family, we present you with these alumni pins. This is
an Alumni Association tradition started with the class of 2009,
and will continue with every class going forward. Welcome to the
family, with 50 years of graduates and over 15,000 family members.

HALL OF FAME 2012
The Advancement Office seeks nominations of potential candidates
for the 2012 Marian Catholic Hall of Fame. Alumni, parents,
faculty, staff and friends may make nominations in the following
four categories:
Alumna/Alumnus of the Year Award*
Honors an alumna/alumnus who has contributed outstanding and
distinguished service in his or her chosen profession, and someone
who reflects honorably on Marian Catholic High School.
Spirit of Marian Award *+
Honors an alumna/alumnus, staff member or friend of Marian
who best exemplifies the Dominican traditions of unselfish
service to others and outstanding contribution to Marian, his/her
community, or church.
Athlete of the Year Award *+
Honors the accomplishments of an alumna/alumnus or staff
member who has participated in the Marian Catholic High School
Athletic Program and has achieved a high level of recognition in
athletics, either professionally, collegiately, or at Marian.
Fine Arts Distinguished Achievement Award *+
Honors the achievement of an alumna/alumnus or staff member
in the Fine Arts – drama, visual arts, music, broadcasting or choral.
A nominee should have achieved a high level of recognition in his/
her particular field.
*Marian Catholic alumna/alumnus must have graduated at
least five years prior to nomination.
+Staff members must have served a minimum of three years
prior to nomination.

(708) 756-9759 by August 20, 2012. Award recipients must be able
to attend the Awards Dinner in February, 2012.
