ARBITRATION AND MEDIATION<br />
The <strong>WIPO</strong> Arbitration <strong>an</strong>d Mediation Center offers Alternative Dispute Resolution options, in particular<br />
arbitration, mediation <strong>an</strong>d expert determination, for the resolution of international commercial disputes<br />
between private parties. The Center’s procedures are designed as efficient <strong>an</strong>d inexpensive alternatives to<br />
court proceedings between parties from various jurisdictions with different IP legislation. The Center<br />
maintains <strong>an</strong> extensive list of specialized mediators, arbitrators <strong>an</strong>d experts from over 100 countries who<br />
conduct dispute resolution procedures according to the <strong>WIPO</strong> rules. These procedures may take place in <strong>an</strong>y<br />
country, in <strong>an</strong>y l<strong>an</strong>guage, <strong>an</strong>d under <strong>an</strong>y law, allowing a great deal of flexibility for the parties.<br />
Parties may elect to use the <strong>WIPO</strong> Electronic Case Facility (<strong>WIPO</strong> ECAF) to m<strong>an</strong>age disputes filed under the<br />
<strong>WIPO</strong> Rules. With the <strong>WIPO</strong> ECAF, parties, neutrals <strong>an</strong>d the Center may securely file, store, search <strong>an</strong>d<br />
retrieve case-related submissions in <strong>an</strong> electronic case file from <strong>an</strong>ywhere in the <strong>world</strong> <strong>an</strong>d at <strong>an</strong>y time.<br />
When a submission is made, all parties receive <strong>an</strong> e-mail alert <strong>an</strong>d may view the case file.<br />
The Center is also the leading dispute resolution service for challenges filed by trademark owners in relation<br />
to abusive registration <strong>an</strong>d use of Internet domain names, commonly known as cybersquatting. This entire<br />
procedure is conducted online <strong>an</strong>d results in enforceable decisions within two months.
