Nothing reminds us of summer, more than a trip to a waterpark and 

the Park Authority has 2 great waterparks for summertime fun. 

SplashDown in Manassas features 2 towering four story tube slides, 

a 770 foot lazy river, twister slides & many interactive water features. 

WaterWorks in Dale City is a favorite spot for tots to early teens who 

enjoy the enclosed speed slide, 3 jungle walks, a circular open slide 

& a separate interactive area for the tots.

A leader in camp programming for over 35 years, our professional 

recreation staff is busy making plans to bring you the best line up of

to learn a new skill, explore the outdoors, visit new places or meet

PAVILION RENTALS 

If you’re planning a group gathering this summer, consider the Park 

Authority. Whether it’s a large or small group, we have pavilions to 

meet your needs. In addition, we can provide activities such as 

water slides, swimming, mini-golf, tennis, softball and pedal boats.

Dear Friends and Neighbors: 

I am pleased to present this Edition of 

Leisure Magazine which includes a 

huge selection of recreation programs 

for you and your family to enjoy this 

summer. Soon, your Park Authority will 

be fully transitioned into the new 

Prince William County Department of 

Parks and Recreation. As you can see 

from the programs contained in this 

edition of Leisure, recreation opportunities 

available to you as a resident of 

Prince William are as plentiful as ever. 

Once the transition into the new 

Department of Parks and Recreation is 

completed, please be assured that the 

quality and choices for public recreation 

will continue to exceed your 

expectations. 

We will continue to rely on many hours 

of volunteer service building and maintaining 

trails, organizing sports leagues, 

adopting parks by participating in 

clean-up crews, or assisting staff with 

new projects. Thanks for your help! 

For the second year in a row, Prince 

William County has been recognized 

as a Top 100 Best Communities for 

Young People. (See front cover). The 

availability of quality recreation opportunities 

is a major component of building 

a great community. And we are very 

proud to receive this national recognition. 

As we enter into the busiest time of the 

year for outdoor sports and recreation

that encourage social and emotional 

growth, promote respect and kindness 

toward others. Our camp programs allow 

children the opportunity to try different 

things, develop new friendships, explore

Campers will enjoy making friends while

Teen Scene ages 13-15 

This camp is designed around the interests 

of young adults. Using the input of the teen 

campers, our counselors will lead ageappropriate 

activities including team building 

experiences, group discussions, craft

also enjoy swimming and library visits during 

the week. 





LAKE RIDGE PARK 

Latitude 38 ages 5-14 

Come hike our woods, walk in our streams, 

and fish and paddle in our lake! Enjoy 

scavenger hunts, learn new survival skills, 

and take great field trips, all while being 

introduced to the all important “Leave No 

Trace” principles! Each week, our age 

groups will enjoy one common theme but 

will learn and experience the theme in 

completely different ways. Each group will 

swim at Tall Oaks Pool and go on a field 

trip outside the park each week.

In its 7th year, Camp Mawavi is the premier 

outdoor adventure experience close to home!

a bus will take us to the Mayhew site. From 

there we will paddle down Bull Run. The

miles of flat water. This is the most scenic, 

canoe able stream in Prince William 

County. We will have areas that you will be 

lifting your boats over logs or picking it up 

in really shallow spots. Lunch and equipment

trip will take us past backyards, along cliffs, 

under the Prince William Parkway and 

Davis Ford Rd and into more open water 

before reaching Bull Run Marina. Our goal 

is to maintain a 3 mile an hour paddling 

speed. You may bring your own boats to 

put in and vehicles will be shuttled to take 

out. Lunch is included. Actual return is 

dependent upon human & water conditions.

The First Tee ® Program

Since 2002, The First Tee of Prince William 

County has offered this nationally recognized 

youth development program providing 

a total experience that encourages 

young golfers to learn the life-long game of 

golf while exposing them to personal & 

social skills development & the values golf 

teaches. 

This dynamic junior program will expose 

young golfers to the game and the opportunities 

to learn “life skills” while learning 

and playing the game of golf. This nationally 

recognized program strives to develop 

the game of golf in juniors while exposing 

them to character development such as 

honor integrity, respect, confidence, 

sportsmanship and responsibility. Juniors 

(7 and older) will have the opportunity to 

successfully advance through 5 levels of 

curriculum – PLAYer, Par, Birdie, Eagle 

and Ace as they meet the requirements for

Fishing from the river bank or dock is free; 

however, anyone 16+ must have a valid 

Virginia State fishing license (sold at many 

local stores). Rent one of the marina’s jon 

boats (with or without a trolling motor), 

canoes, kayaks or pedal boats. Day and 

season launch passes are available if you 

own your own boat with less than 10 

horsepower, a launch ramp is available for 

a small fee.

Locust Shade Pond 

Bank fishing is available at our 8 acre lake 

all year. There are native largemouth bass, 

bluegill and crappie. The Virginia 

Department of Game and Inland Fish 

stocks channel catfish in the spring and 

trout between November and April. 

Appropriate Virginia State fishing licenses 

are required for everyone age 16 and 

above. Our handicapped accessible dock 

makes fishing available to everyone. 

Fishing is FREE but appropriate licenses 

are required for those 16+. 

Pedal boats are available: Open Noon-6p 

Apr 16 through Sep 30 - weekends only. 

Fishing Tournament and Clinic 

We begin with a short clinic on fishing 

basics, fish and then snacks will be provided. 

Trophies will be awarded in age

GENERAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION 

Full payment required at registration 

✔ A $25 fee is charged for all returned checks 

✔ All Park Authority classes/programs are based on meeting a minimum enrollment. If this enrollment 

is not met, classes will be subject to cancellation. For this reason, customers are encouraged to 

register early for any class they are interested in. 

✔ All class participants will be notified if their class has been cancelled or schedule has changed 

✔ Class participants are required to meet basic participation skills that include: 

● Participation for the duration of an entire session 

● Participate in the class/program environment with the set ratios 

● Follow and accept directions/structure as necessary 

● Take turns and share in a cooperative manner 

● Respect others and their property 

Note: Select programs may have additional participation requirements

To cancel a class, please contact the center at which your class is held.

REFUND POLICY 

100% of payment will be refunded if the PWC Park Authority cancels a class due to insufficient 

enrollment or any other reason. 

100% of payment will be refunded, less a $5 administrative fee, if customer cancels from class at least 

one week prior to the start of the class. 

A 50% credit will be placed in our registration system if a customer cancels from a class prior to the 

2nd class meeting. 

No refund or credit will be issued if a customer cancels from a class after the 2nd class meeting.

Train to become a lifeguard, swim instructor, or to 

meet swim coaching requirements at the Freedom 

Center! Freedom offers several American Red Cross 

certification courses including Lifeguard Training, 

Water Safety Instructor, CPR/AED for the Professional 

Rescuer recertification, Lifeguard Review certification 

and Safety Training for Swim Coaches.

This two day class is designed for parents with busy schedules and a desire to complete childbirth 

course. After this class you will be mentally and emotionally empowered for a satisfying 

birth. This class should be taken between 32-38 weeks. 


Advanced Childbirth Class Sat 4:30 pm-7:30 pm 

Sessions: June 9, July 7, August 11 

This class is designed for the mom who desires to have a non-medicated birth. Prerequisites are 

a previous birth or a basic childbirth class. Topics include: advanced comfort techniques acupressure, 

labor positions, and much more. You will receive a folder full of resources that can be taken 

to the birth. Best if class taken between 34-38 weeks.
