Dear Parents and Students,
The financial aid process that you will be completing this year most often awards money
to families through federal grants and loans as well as individual colleges’ grants, loans
and scholarships. However, this process does not give families information about
private companies and organizations that offer scholarship money to students, nor does
it give the students information on how to apply for those scholarships.
The following pages summarize criteria regarding scholarships that were available in the
2011-2012 school year to Old Saybrook students. Most of the applications for these
scholarships will be available in the Guidance Office, however many can be contacted
through the sponsors addresses and websites listed. Offers tend to change annually
and information will be updated as it is received.
It is our recommendation that you pursue private scholarship money aggressively. In
addition to the scholarships listed in this booklet, we advise that you and your family
consult various publications, such as The Scholarship Book, Prentice Hall, Sports
Scholarships and College Athletic Programs, and Peterson's Guide or through the

These publications are available in the Guidance Office, Acton Public Library and local
bookstores. It is also important for you to investigate sources of scholarship money
through organizations you belong to, the Internet and your place of employment.
For your information, local Old Saybrook scholarships are announced to our students as
they are received. Many of the applications for Connecticut and Nationwide
scholarships are available on-line which is addressed in the scholarship descriptions.
We hope this information proves helpful, and we encourage you to take a proactive role
in researching and applying for these and other scholarships. We are available to
