Case History: • A 38 year old man developed fever, chills, headache, and malaise. The illness was characterized by daily fevers to 102 F with rigors. At presentation to his physician, the physical exam was unremarkable.
Case History (continued): • The initial laboratory data showed a WBC count of 4500 with 47% polys and 36% bands. The chest x-ray showed no infiltrate and a urinalysis was normal.
