Mothers’ Union – Deben Branch
The Deben Branch of the Mothers’ Union meets in Bawdsey Village Hall on the first
Monday of each month at 2 p.m. At the April meeting Malcolm Fleetwood, the local link
contact for Age UK, gave a talk on the services available from them. The Ipswich Help
Centre in Upper Brook Street (Tel no. 01473 257039) is the first port of call for help and
information covering a widespread number of services. These include:-
1. Domestic Information Service – to find help with cleaning, shopping etc.
2. Independence Advisors Service – a home visit to discuss issues of concern
with an older person giving advice as to local sources of help benefits
3. Advice Service – home visits to assist with completion of benefits application
forms and impartial advice on welfare benefits available.
4. Befriending – pre-arranged regular telephone calls for a friendly chat.
5. Woodbridge New Horizons Lunch and Leisure Club – a day centre held on
Tuesdays and Thursdays for frail older people, with transport, lunch and
activities provided.
The talk was supported by a display of Age UK leaflets, which were quickly taken up by
those present. Questions asked indicated that there were a possible number of people who
could benefit from the information in our area.
The meetings last about one and a half hours, giving time for a cup of tea and chat after
listening to a variety of speakers. Anyone interested please come along. Bring a friend for
support, you will be made very welcome.

Sutton Open Gardens with Royal Scarecrow Display
Sunday 27 May 2012 12 noon until 6pm. Entry £3 adults, children under 16 free.
Cream teas served at the Old Vicarage from 3pm. Start point Sutton Memorial Hall for
car park and collection of Garden Route etc. Transport available for outlying Gardens.

A Barn Dance will be held at Woodbridge Football Club, Fynn Road Woodbridge on Sat
19th May at 7.30pm. Tickets £10 from The Bookshop 66 The Thoroughfare Woodbridge.
Come and join us for a fun evening, where barbeque food is included in the ticket price,
the club bar is available to quench the thirst, and you may get lucky in the Prize Draw.
All funds raised go towards our monthly socials, which brings together our visually
impaired members for afternoon tea and entertainment.
