Archtop Meeting Germany 2012
by Richard Heeres
Schloss Almosshof
Last March, the 3rd Archtop Meeting Germany
was held. This time the biennial festival was
held at Schloss Almosshof, a stately home in
Nürnberg in the south of Germany.
Author Richard Heeres showing one of his beautiful archtops.
He’s making nylon string jazz models also.
The idea of these meetings is to bring together players,
makers and aficionados of the archtop guitar. This
years edition was packed with concerts by (among others)
David Plate, Alex Jung and the Philipp Stauber
trio, and workshops by Thomas Brendgen-
Mönkemeier, Ali Claudi and Thomas Reussenzehn,
and an exhibition which was very well visited.
The driving force behind the meetings is Andreas Polte.
An avid fan of the archtop guitar, Andreas has a site
with just about anything you could want to know about
the German jazz (guitar) scene. For more, visit
http://www.archtop-germany.de. In German, but with
lots of pictures.
Thomas Brendgens-Mönkemeyer gave a fascinating workshop
about the “solo jazz guitarist on stage - a survival artist”.
