UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS<br />

What is an <strong>Undergraduate</strong><br />
<strong>Research</strong> <strong>Award</strong>?<br />
Successful students will work on a research<br />
project with a UOIT faculty member.<br />
<strong>Award</strong>ees will receive $4,500 to $6,000 for 12 to<br />
16 weeks (May – August) of full-time research.<br />
There is only one application process for all<br />
UOIT centrally administered awards. Through<br />
this one process, you will be considered for all<br />
awards for which you are eligible.
Am I eligible to apply?<br />
To apply for an award, students must:<br />
be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of<br />
Canada; international students are eligible for<br />
the UOIT STAR only<br />
be registered (at the time of application) as a<br />
full or part-time student in a bachelor's degree<br />
program; and<br />
have obtained, over the previous years of<br />
study, a cumulative average of at least a B-<br />
(70%, 2.7 grade points).

Choose a RESEARCH PROJECT<br />
Applicants must apply to work on a summer<br />
project from the list provided<br />
Complete your APPLICATION PACKAGE<br />
1. Application form<br />
2. Proof of current academic standing<br />
3. Summary of interest
Application Package<br />
1 Completed Application Form<br />
One per student; rank top two choices from the list of research<br />
projects; complete electronically, sign and submit the print-out<br />
2 Proof of Current Academic Standing<br />
Provide a one page print-out of your academic standing from<br />
MyCampus (instructions provided on the website)<br />
***Transfer students must also submit transcripts from their previous<br />
institutions.<br />
3 Summary of Interest (2 page maximum)<br />
- which project(s) you are applying to and why;<br />
- how the research position will enhance your academic studies and<br />
career goals;<br />
- what skills and expertise you can contribute to the project;<br />
- demonstrate that you meet the academic criteria listed in the project<br />
summary
Selection Criteria<br />
High academic standing based on cumulative<br />
GPA from all previous years of study.<br />
Level of experience, skills and/or training<br />
relevant to the specific research position applied<br />
for.<br />
Decisions will be made by a Selection<br />
Committee based within each faculty or<br />
individual faculty supervisors
When is the deadline?<br />
All application packages are due:<br />
Friday February 25th, 2011 by 12:00 pm<br />
A hard copy of all applications must be<br />

Intended to stimulate student interest in research<br />
and encourage students to undertake graduate<br />
studies<br />
14 STAR awards will be awarded (2 per Faculty)<br />
Open to all students registered at UOIT<br />
Supports a research project for 12 - 16 weeks
<strong>NSERC</strong> <strong>USRA</strong><br />
Intended to stimulate interest in natural sciences<br />
and engineering research and encourage<br />
students to undertake graduate studies or<br />
pursue a research career in these fields<br />
13 <strong>NSERC</strong> <strong>USRA</strong>s will be awarded<br />
Open to Canadian citizens and permanent<br />
residents<br />
Supports a research project for 16 weeks
CIHR HPSRA<br />
Supports research training for health professional<br />
students. Eligible applicants must be registered in<br />
a UOIT Bachelors program in Nursing (BScN) or<br />
Kinesiology.<br />
Open to Canadian citizens and permanent<br />
residents<br />
Supports a research project for 13 - 16 weeks
