Students learn to use social media in job hunt • Consider using flameless
Students at Crown Point
High School thought social
networking was just that, socializing.
However, Mary
Bachnak, Business Department
and I.C.E. teacher, recognizes
the value of social networking
for job procurement.
Bachnak has invited Dean
DeLisle of Forward Progress
to the high school for the past
two years to speak to her seniors
about the importance
of properly using Facebook,
LinkedIN, Twitter, and other
social networks in getting
jobs and promotions.
“Teachers are forward
thinkers who bring in outside
experts to validate the
concepts we teach in the
classroom,” says Bachnak.
(Twin Lakes from Pg. 1)
pany must respond. The approval
also allows the POA to request
documentation from the utility.
A Twin Lakes spokesman
said the utility has 3,200 customers
in the LOFS-Winfield
area. Most, more than 2,600,
are LOFS property owners.
The rest include those in the
commercial area southwest
of 109 th and Randolph, and
the Stony Run subdivision.
Porter Lakes and Jerry Ross
elementary schools also are
Twin Lakes customers.
Opposing Twin Lakes rate
hike requests before the IURC
is a costly, time-consuming
process. However, that vigilance
has served to reduce or
delay service cost increases in
the past.
Students who use social
networks like Facebook or
LinkedIn know the value of
the social side of social networking.
DeLisle came to teach the
students that they need to
start thinking about their e-
footprint and how they can
use it to get a job and make
$20,000 more than their
competition, other students.
DeLisle, president and
CEO of Forward Progress,
advises businesses and individuals
on the value of social
networking to create an
e-footprint to differentiate
themselves from others and
gain that competitive edge.
“Just Google your name
and see what you get,” stated
DeLisle. “You need to control
what the world sees about
you.” DeLisle then illustrated
the power of e-numbers.
Your online eReputation is
permanent. “Employers will
Google your name and look at
Facebook before they call you
for the interview to see what
your eReputation looks like.”
Creating a positive impression
on the web is critical because it
is worldwide.
DeLisle gave a lesson on
how to maximize students’
friend base from 214 to over
a million. With numbers this
powerful, you can build your
professional network, promote
yourself, your product, gain
trust, and credibility, all of the
elements of landing that job.
Regardless of age or status,
social networking works.
One hundred percent of
Fortune 500 companies use
LinkedIN. There are social
networks developing every
day. Being in the right one
can make the difference of
being at the right place at the
right time.
candles, which look and
