Signature Sig Zane
One of Hawaii’s most culturally-sensitive
designers, Sig Zane of Hilo, Hawaii, created the
<strong>Outrigger</strong> <strong>Reef</strong> uniforms. Done in ‘Ohe Kapala
(bamboo stamping) style, Zane incorporates
the wa‘a (canoe) that brings a family together, the
hoe (paddle), pe‘a (sail), and nalu (ocean waves).
When guests are expected,
the house is prepared.

Fragrant tropical flowers
adorn the rooms.

there is plenty of food and

The arrival experience
is particularly impressive.
The hotel’s entryway is a
spectacular Polynesian canoe
house built of richly-colored
woods with traditional patterns.
Restoration of Ho‘aloha
Ho‘aloha, suspended in our longhouse entryway,
is a century-old Hawaiian canoe that had once
been used for fishing. The koa-wood canoe
had been discovered in the late 1980s and was
restored by noted canoe builder and paddler
Tay W. Perry, with the help of the Friends of
Hokule‘a and Ho‘aloha as well as <strong>Outrigger</strong>
employees. After its completion in 2004,
Ho‘aloha was paddled across the waters of Waikiki,
landing at the beach fronting the <strong>Outrigger</strong> <strong>Reef</strong>.
Suspended from a towering
perpendicular ceiling is
the century-old Ho‘aloha koa
canoe that was lovingly
and painstakingly restored
by volunteers and members
of the <strong>Outrigger</strong>
‘ohana (family).

Arriving guests are escorted
through the hotel’s spacious,
open-air lobby to the
registration area. A seated
check-in is an introduction
to the personal touch you will
experience throughout your
visit. You are refreshed from
your journey with a fragrant

An ocean-oriented decor
along the hallways inspires you
