<strong>Program</strong><br />

• The <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hawaii</strong>’s s <strong>Unclaimed</strong> <strong>Property</strong><br />

<strong>Program</strong> is administered under the provisions <strong>of</strong><br />

Chapter 523A <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Hawaii</strong> Revised Statutes.<br />

• This program collects and holds, in a custodial<br />

capacity, abandoned and dormant unclaimed<br />

property from Holders (financial institutions,<br />

businesses, state agencies, etc.)<br />

• As a public service, the <strong>Unclaimed</strong> <strong>Property</strong><br />

<strong>Program</strong> returns property to rightful owners at no<br />

charge.


<strong>Unclaimed</strong> <strong>Property</strong> Reporting<br />

• Holders (financial institutions, businesses, state agencies,<br />

etc.) <strong>of</strong> property presumed to be abandoned are required to<br />

report unclaimed property annually each November 1 to the<br />

<strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hawaii</strong> <strong>Unclaimed</strong> <strong>Property</strong> <strong>Program</strong>.<br />

• Some examples <strong>of</strong> <strong>Unclaimed</strong> <strong>Property</strong> are:<br />

• Uncashed Payroll checks, dividend checks, money orders, travelers s checks<br />

• Dormant Savings & Checking Accounts<br />

• Shares <strong>of</strong> Stock<br />

• Deposits held by utilities<br />

• Safe deposit box contents<br />

• Insurance and medical refunds, etc.

<strong>Unclaimed</strong> <strong>Property</strong> owners in general will need to:<br />

1. Complete and Submit a claim form.<br />

(Claims for property valued $50 or greater and/or for stock shares,<br />

mutual funds and safe deposit box contents must have all signatures<br />

notarized.)<br />

2. Submit a copy <strong>of</strong> current government issued<br />

identification.<br />

3. Provide documents showing pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> ownership to<br />

support the claim to the property.<br />

(i.e. submit matching documents evidencing information<br />

provided by the reporting company in Box A <strong>of</strong> the claim<br />

form.)
